UW Data Science Seminar Application 2024/2025
We are inviting applications for guest presenters for the “UW Data Science Seminar,” an annual lecture series at the University of Washington that hosts scholars working across applied areas of data science, such as the sciences, engineering, humanities and arts along with methodological areas in data science, such as computer science, applied math and statistics.
We are looking to host scholars for presentations between October 2024 and May 2025. If you are interested in being one of our presenters, please read and complete this application. Consideration of applications will begin immediately and will continue until spots are filled.
The eScience Data Science Seminar, a nearly decade old seminar series, is hosted by the eScience Institute and the University of Washington. The eScience Institute, formed in 2008, was created to advance data-intensive discovery in all fields, including the sciences, engineering, humanities and arts. Our presenters come from all domains across the university campus and include occasional external speakers from regional partners, governmental agencies and industry.
Presentations should be oriented towards a diverse audience with basic data science literacy. Attendees will have domain science backgrounds including, but not limited to astronomy, biology, chemistry, digital arts, education, engineering, and many others. We encourage presentations that engage in technical details but do so in an approachable manner suitable for a broad audience. We accommodate a variety of formats for the presentation including traditional science talks, virtual studio tours for digital artists and live demonstrations of code and algorithms. We welcome applications from all levels of scholars from junior, mid-career, and senior faculty, staff scientists, post doctoral fellows and graduate students.
