The Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (#CLMS) - Pan-European & Local, & the In Situ component, implemented by the #EEA
Om os
Copernicus is the European Union's Earth Observation and Monitoring programme. The European Environment Agency (EEA) has been entrusted with the coordination of Copernicus access to in situ data, and the implementation of the pan European and local components of the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS). Using state of the art satellite imagery, CLMS provides information on European land cover, land use, and characterization of biophysical parameters, including crucial input for environmental policies such as the European Green Deal. The Service supports stakeholders—such as policy makers, scientists, and global citizens— working in a variety of domains including nature conservation and restoration, agriculture and food security, and spatial and urban planning. All CLMS data are freely and openly accessible, which enables high-quality decision making and innovation in the fields of land monitoring and environmental change. Copernicus also provides a wide variety of in situ data, collected from ground-based, sea-based, and air-based monitoring systems. This data is used for production and validation of Copernicus products and is essential to deliver reliable and consistent data over time. More info about In Situ: https://insitu.copernicus.eu/ Want to know more about the CLMS data products and the in situ service? How can #CLMS snow and ice products help tackle the growing complexities of #winter? ❄️ With climate change reshaping winters in the Northern Hemisphere, we face more uncertain snow conditions such as increased unpredictability, wetter snow, and a shorter snow season overall. These changes have downstream effects on ecosystems, water resources and industries. In today’s #Observer, discover how our #snow and #ice products deliver vital data to support hydropower generation, flood prevention, and ecological conservation—helping us monitor, adapt, and make smarter decisions. 👉 Read the full Observer here: https://lnkd.in/dmx8pcF5 #ecology #conservation #hyropower #climatechange

Information about building heights 🏙️ is vital for urban analysis. It enables studies on areas such as: planning, energy use, impact of pollution and air quality, and the spread of infectious diseases. The #CLMS Urban Atlas Building Block Height product provides data for urban areas in 870 cities across Europe, and data from Poland’s Główny Urząd Geodezji i Kartografii (Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography) helped achieve greater accuracy and higher quality information in the country 💪 Discover this use case story by EuroGeographics ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eEiw9dTF #InSitu #UrbanAnalysis #BuildingHeight

#CLMS and In-Situ are attending the #Copernicus SESA Workshop in #Madrid from 10–12 December! The Copernicus Service for EU External and #Security Actions (SESA) enhances situational awareness and security by delivering tailored geospatial products. These are critical for crisis response 🛡️, conflict monitoring, transport safety 🚢✈️, climate security 🌱, and more. Both CLMS and In-Situ are proud to support the SESA mission, providing critical data for security efforts within and beyond EU borders. We’re honoured to have Copernicus in EEA lead Usue Donezar Hoyos and In-Situ expert José Miguel Rubio Iglesias presenting to the security community. Yesterday, we captured this moment when they were together with SESA members, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), and the European Fisheries Control Agency - EFCA. The #Alps 🏔️, Europe’s iconic high mountain range, are losing their snowy embrace. Here we see the area around the #Matterhorn, where #Switzerland and #Italy are having to redraw their border after shifts caused by melting #glaciers. 🌡️ Warmer winters mean less snowfall, faster melting and more wet snow ❄️ Glaciers, the lifeblood of many Alpine ecosystems, are retreating, leaving rocky slopes in their wake 🌍 These changes threaten water resources, safety, and biodiversity across the region #CLMS High Resolution Water, Snow and Ice (HR-WSI) products show the impacts of climate change in unprecedented detail. They help manage water supplies, mitigate risks, and support sustainable development in Europe’s high-mountain areas. Let’s work together to protect our shared ecological heritage before it’s too late.
