As someone very interested and invested into #dotnet and #aspnet, I always looked at Blazor with interest. Those who know me or have stumbled upon my blog will now how allergic I am to everything related to frontend. Luckily, at Dynavox Group AB, I have a great team with people like Daphne Visser and Petra Cuturdic taking care of delivering nice bits to our users screens. But that's not always the case. More than once, in my private projects, I need to display information to the user, or maybe require some input from them. And I don't have the luxury to delegate these issues to others. That's where Blazor shines. It gives me the possibility to quickly create interfaces that are dynamic enough to appeal the users without asking me to spend too much of my time on an platform/ecosystem where I am definitely less productive. Three weeks at Filimundus AB - time flies! I thought I’d share a quick update on some of the exciting projects I’ve worked on during my first weeks 🥳 📣 New promo system: One of my first (self-assigned, hehe) tasks was to build a brand-new promotion system for our games. The previous system relied on a web view to display content. The new system is built natively in Unity - bringing tons of cool features such as a blazing fast performance, a more polished look and a new caching system resulting in offline capability and bandwidth savings! 🛤️ Faster savings in BRIO: This week I've been diving into BRIO World, trying to optimize its saving system. By implementing a custom JSON-based format and doing some smaller optimizations, I was able to reduce the file sizes by roughly 90% compared to the old XML format 💪 📉 Along with other improvements, this reduced save times by up to 80%, making the experience smoother for players. ✨ Some smaller tasks: Together with Elias Albrektsson, we've investigated and solved tons of bugs for Little Police. I've also started looking into CI/CD using TeamCity, with the goal of automating our build and deployment pipeline. On top of that, I’ve been exploring ways to implement cloud saving for BRIO, further enhancing the player experience ☁️ It’s been an amazing start with lots of fun tasks, and I’m so excited to be part of such a talented team. I can’t wait to see what more we’ll create together 💕 🌸

I’m now ready for the next chapter in my career. At ecobee I wore many hats, and contributed to a variety of high-impact initiatives: ✅ Created engaging, educational blog content that helped customers better understand the products, features, and sustainability initiatives, improving customer engagement and product adoption. ✅ Managed the Utility API documentation and help center, delivering clear, actionable resources to internal stakeholders, and over 100 utilities. ✅Presented at developer all-hands, increasing API knowledge and alignment across teams. ✅ Conducted QA for the thermostat compatibility checker and website redesign, ensuring a smooth user experience, and preventing a catastrophic event from occurring. ✅ Provided technical support across multiple channels (phone, email, chat, social media), resolving customer issues efficiently and enhancing overall customer satisfaction. ✅ Identified a pain point with deleting accounts that were no longer active, by creating a process that reduced deletion time from over a year to almost real-time, reduced over 10,000 hours of work, decreased repeat calls for this issue by 90%, and eliminated escalations. ✅ Volunteered in community initiatives like park cleanups, supporting corporate social responsibility, and a cleaner greener environment. I worked with some incredible colleagues, and an amazing manager. Now, I’m looking forward to new opportunities in Developer Relations or other relevant roles. With a dream of becoming a hacker already at age 7 and many projects since then, Wilma joined the Velocity batch building synchronized audio for reading through eye tracking. What was your favorite moment of the trip? "The highlights were getting to know the other participants and experiencing unique aspects of startup culture together. Visiting the hacker house hf0 and meeting Cory Levy on the rooftop were particularly memorable and inspiring moments." What was the biggest surprise? "Honestly, a lot. In many ways, it felt like stepping onto a new planet with APIs being advertised on billboards along the highway. Furthermore, the emphasis on future potential over past achievements was refreshing. Above all, the most surprising aspect was how deeply ingrained tech culture is, creating the perfect ecosystem for startups to thrive. It's truly a world designed for innovation." How did Velocity Fellows impact your startup journey? "It opened my eyes to vast opportunities, with everything moving faster and on a larger scale. In my years as a software engineer, I’ve been part of projects that remind me a bit of Frankenstein’s monster. 🧟‍♂️ You start with an idea that sounds a little crazy. People give you strange looks, but you gather the parts you need, or sometimes dig 𝚜̶𝚘̶𝚖̶𝚎̶ ̶𝚐̶𝚛̶𝚊̶𝚟̶𝚎̶𝚜̶ deep into forgotten places, and after some serious effort, you bring it to life. You can scream “It’s alive, alive!!”, and it works! It’s functional, you’re proud of it, and it’s actually useful. You’re no longer the "mad scientist." 🧑‍🔬 But fast forward a few years… The stitches holding everything together start to strain, things creak under the surface, and suddenly, people are showing up at your door with torches and pitchforks! 🔥 There is some hidden teaching in this about Software Maintenance, Technical Debt, and Day 2 Operations .... but it seems the front door is about to break down from the crowd and those pitchforks look very sharp! 👨‍🌾 On a serious note, the first lines of the preface in the Google SRE Book say it best: "Software engineering has this in common with having children: the labor before the birth is painful and difficult, but the labor after the birth is where you actually spend most of your effort. Last week, we hosted our second Visma Design Day Finland, bringing together designers from across Visma Finland to discuss a big question: how to measure the impact of design? In a full-day workshop, Vitaly Friedman shared how to define and track Design KPIs—metrics that connect design to real business results. Here are the key insights we discussed: 1️⃣ Bridging the language gap: UX and business often speak different languages. While business talks about “growth” and “markets,” UX focuses on “reducing friction” and “building trust.” Designers need to align their message with business goals to create better collaboration. 2️⃣ Design drives results: Metrics like cost reduction, churn prevention, and revenue growth show how design solves business problems. At the same time, metrics like user satisfaction and engagement show the value it creates for users. 3️⃣ Aligning design with business goals: To scale the design’s impact, we need KPIs focusing on user and business needs. For example: Increase product adoption rates among new customers by 10% within 6 months by improving onboarding experiences and reducing friction in the first-use journey. Focus on outcomes and results if you want to make design more impactful and demonstrate its value in your organization. Communicate the design's results in clear, measurable terms—make it a concrete result that shows its impact on users and the business. I finally managed to get a local instance of Open WebUI running on the servers of Helsingør Kommune, thanks to help from our talented IT department. Even though we do not have any GPUs, the performance of Llama3 8B is still decent on a 100GB CPU server. This setup allows case-workers to use the power of GenAI without worrying about sensitive data being stored on OpenAI's servers. Specifically, if you're utilizing Kotlin's list.removeFirst() or list.removeLast() extensions, please note that this could lead to runtime crashes on older Android versions after bumping the compileSdk to 35. Interesting talk from Lasse Fredslund at #codegarden on what is on the roadmap for Umbraco 15 and beyond. Block-level variants providing personalisation opportunities, client credentials for the content delivery and management APIs, and investigations into providing search abstractions. Further on the back office will see a new Library section, home to reusable global blocks and global tags, as well as more granular permissions settings for editors. The changes Umbraco have made in the latest version with the backoffice is impressive and you can see how this is a launch pad to allow for future improvements. Great State
