I recently applied for a mapping volunteering program by FIG Young Surveyors Network (YSN) and got selected and participated in mapping for Tanzania to help end FGM from the 22nd to 23rd of november 2024. I am glad to have participated in the program and got to learn alongside the 48hrs and more. I also got to learn of the work that Crowd2Map Tanzania are doing in Tanzania through mapping. Thank you to Crowd2Map Tanzania and FIG Young Surveyors Network (YSN) for this opportunity.

I recently had the privilege of volunteering in the Mapping for Girls initiative, collaborating with dedicated mappers over 2-3 days to digitise buildings as part of efforts to combat Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) affecting young girls in Tanzania. This initiative was organised by the FIG Young Surveyors Network (YSN)'s Volunteer Community Surveyor Program (VCSP) and Crowd2Map and was a powerful reminder of how GIS can drive real change in vulnerable communities. #MappingForGirls #GISForGood #EndGBV #FightFGM #Teamwork #Geospatial #SocialImpact https://lnkd.in/eAZu_HSx

Mapping for Change: Empowering Girls Against FGM and GBV Two Days of Powerful Action, Incredible Impact. This weekend, surveying professionals from around the globe came together for a ground-breaking initiative that goes far beyond traditional mapping—we mapped hope, resilience, and pathways to protection for girls facing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Event Highlights · Mapped over 150 critical intervention zones. · 80+ professional surveyors and community advocates. · Data from 12 different regions. · Innovative geospatial strategies developed to support vulnerable communities. Key Achievements · Created a comprehensive spatial database of support resources. · Developed community risk mapping tools. · Established a collaborative network for ongoing intervention. · Generated actionable insights for policymakers and community leaders. Why This Matters Every point on our map represents a life protected, a future secured, and hope restored. Geospatial technology isn't just about coordinates; it's about connection, understanding, and creating tangible change. Our Commitment This isn't just a project. This is a movement. We're dedicated to continuing our work, amplifying voices, and creating safe spaces for every girl. Special thanks to our partners (Crowd2Map) and supporters who made this incredible initiative possible. #MappingForChange #VCSP #FIG_YSN #GirlsEmpowerment #StopFGM #EndGBV #Surveying4Good

Finally, on 13th November we concluded an inspiring and enriching pre-event on the theme “Empowered Youth for Climate-Resilient Land” organized at Land Management Training Center (LMTC), Dhulikhel, Nepal—a day filled with insightful sessions, networking, and learning opportunities. This event brought together over 70 passionate young surveyors from 6 countries, joining hands to discuss geospatial technologies, climate resilience, and land governance. We kicked off with an opening ceremony and keynote addresses from FIG - International Federation of Surveyors, NIC and LMTC, followed by the inspiring John Brock presentation on women’s roles in cinema and awards for our outstanding FIG Foundation Grant and The John Brock Gift for the Future award recipients. The day unfolded with a powerful panel discussion on "Harnessing Geospatial Technologies for Youth Leadership in Land Governance and Climate Resilience," hands-on workshops, and engaging roundtable discussions on land conflicts and tenure security in post-disaster contexts. On behalf of FIG Young Surveyors Network, the closing remarks were delivered by Shristi Paudel FIG YSN Nepal Representative, who highlighted the incredible contributions and dedication of all who attended and supported this event. A special thanks to: • All participants, especially those who travelled from abroad, for enriching our event with your perspectives! • Our dedicated speakers, moderators, and experts from FIG, the Nepali Survey Department, Kathmandu University, and private and non-government sectors. • The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation; LMTC; FIG YSN team; and FIG YSN Nepal Representative Shristi Paudel • The event organizing team from FIG YSN, Land Management Training Center (LMTC) and incredible volunteers for their invaluable contributions!
