Back in November, our talented in-house photographer Yulia Kozlova captured Mimers Plads dressed in a blanket of snow—pure winter magic! When Mimers Plads was nominated for "Byens Bedste Byrum 2023", Berlingske's architectural critic Holger Dahl compared its curbstone layout to piano keys, calling it: "A fine, distinctive, and deliciously tactile impression that elevates the entire space beyond the ordinary." New streetsport and community centers come to life in Ukraine! We’re excited to partner with urban reform, GAME, and Street Culture to breathe new life into Soviet-era buildings across Ukraine. Together, we’re transforming old cinemas, community centers, and industrial spaces into vibrant hubs for streetsports, culture, and creativity—symbols of hope and resilience during Ukraine’s recovery. A few weeks ago, we joined Street Culture and Urban Reform for a collaborative workshop, reimagining these historic structures to connect with today’s youth. Drawing on our experience with Danish GAME centers, we’re co-creating solutions to support this inspiring vision. By repurposing these buildings, we preserve their unique heritage while giving them new purpose and meaning for future generations. A big thank you to everyone involved for their dedication and passion!

We are very happy to have been chosen to develop the vision plan for Haraldsgadekvarteret and create design concepts for Lersø Parkallé and Sifs Plads in collaboration with Artelia Denmark. Last week, we joined Københavns Kommune and local working groups on a walk through the neighbourhood, where residents and stakeholders shared valuable insights and aspirations for the area. EFFEKT partner Tina Lund Højgaard expressed her enthusiasm for taking a holistic approach to the neighbourhood: "This neighborhood is alive with contrasts and diversity—a place where past and present intersect to create a unique sense of identity. Its broad, partially desolate streets present a challenge but also hold tremendous potential. They can transform into green, light-filled urban spaces that celebrate the community’s vibrant activities and connections." She highlighted the importance of collaboration and aligning ongoing projects with future ones to unlock the neighbourhood’s full potential. Building on tools like EFFEKT’s development compass for Frederiksberg Hospital, we aim to foster open-source knowledge sharing and establish a benchmark for future large-scale urban transformations. EFFEKT’s Head of Landscape, Virginie Le Goffic, shared her vision for enhancing urban nature in the area: "With Lersø Parkallé and Sifs Plads, we have a unique opportunity to craft a new recreational link between Fælledparken and Utterslev Mose—a dynamic green corridor that serves as a lively meeting spot for both Haraldsgadekvarteret and all of Copenhagen.” Curious to learn more? We are so happy to share that the co-housing and building community Sjællandsk Muld has won the Project Development Award at the Building Awards 2024 for an exemplary project development process. The award celebrates projects that excel in the "holy trinity" of innovation, architectural quality, and sustainability, while also enriching their surroundings. One aspect that captured the jury's attention was the coordinated collaboration across all stakeholders—from residents, developers, banks, architects, municipalities and contractors. Resulting in a high-quality construction with a love for architectural aesthetics, including roof overhangs, and a design built entirely from breathable materials. What sets this project apart is the ongoing involvement of future residents in the building process. They had the opportunity to voice their needs and wishes, which helped raise the bar for both sustainability and quality. As one example, Sjællandsk Muld is energy self-sufficient, generating its own electricity and heat. This achievement is a shared effort! A big thank you to the 35 families for their dedication and pioneering spirit, and to our partners Almenr Byggefællesskaber, Enemærke & Petersen a/s, Merkur Andelskasse, and Hyllegaard Udvikling ApS, who have paved the way for a co-housing project that raises the bar. Located in Hvalsø, Zealand, Sjællandsk Muld is the first completed co-housing community within the larger vision of Hyllegaard Høje in Lejre Municipality. Later today you can take part in the opening of a mini-exhibition featuring the seven winning projects from the ‘Danish Design Award 2024’ at the Danish Architecture Center (Dansk Arkitektur Center). We are so proud and honoured to be among the winners with the project Living Places Copenhagen. The seven winners have been selected by an international jury and reflect the award’s five core design values: Do no harm, Pursue beauty, Lead the way, Prove your impact, and Solve problems worth solving. Through these values, design is highlighted as both an ethical guideline and a craft-based discipline that simultaneously delivers solutions to improve our society and everyday lives. The mini-exhibition has been created in a collaboration between Creative Denmark, DDC – Danish Design Center, and the Danish Architecture Center (DAC) and can be visited for free in the DAC Passage, right at the entrance to the Danish Architecture Center. Living Places just won a Danish Design Award 2024!! The award, which this year introduced a renewed focus on value-based assessment, honors Living Places as a groundbreaking example of design that creates positive change and addresses the major climate and health challenges we face today. The Danish Design Award 2024 marks a new chapter in the award’s history by eliminating fixed categories and focusing on solutions that break traditional boundaries. The evaluation was based on five core values: Do No Harm, Pursue Beauty, Lead the Way, Prove Your Impact, and Solve Problems Worth Solving. Living Places was highlighted by the jury as a project that combines beautiful design with a low CO₂ footprint, healthy indoor environments, and an entirely new approach to how we live together. "Living Places is an example of how good design is about asking the right questions. We set out to develop homes that are both healthy for people and the planet, built with simple and circular construction principles, community-oriented, flexible, and affordable. 10 Key Insights from 'Beyond The Roadmap' Report Two weeks ago, we launched "Beyond The Roadmap". This report isn't just a collection of ideas; it’s a blueprint for transformative change that any nation, city, or industry can use to redefine their approach to sustainability. We see it as an important extension of "Doughnut for Urban Development: A Manual" that we published last year, because it shows how to move beyond the Reduction Roadmap for the sustainable transition - we must move beyond carbon tunnel vision, beyond reductive targets towards systemic solutions, beyond no harm towards more good and beyond ecological targets to include safe and just Earth-system boundaries. Each insight in the report is crafted to guide and inspire stakeholders at all levels to initiate meaningful changes that can leave a lasting impact. By sharing these insights, we hope to empower others to take bold, actionable steps towards a sustainable future. We hope you find the insights in "Beyond The Roadmap" both interesting and valuable. We have poured heart and soul into this project, and we're eager to hear your thoughts, insights, and critiques. We are excited to share "Del Hus Vidensprojekt" created in a collaboration between EFFEKT and V!GØR for the Forening Del Hus and part of Bevar Mere – Fremtidens boliger i nutidens bygninger With climate urgency and "housing crisis" as a starting point this project investigates the possibility of supplying needed housing for the projected population growth through redistribution of the existing building stock. Through mapping and communicating knowledge on the subdivision of single-family homes, this project demonstrates that we do not have a housing crisis - we have a distribution crisis. Reduction Roadmap recently launched the report "Beyond the Roadmap" highlighting the need to transition away from construction of new buildings towards a practice of transformation and renovation. This project presents a precise solution of how to meet societies’ need for housing within safe and just planetary boundaries. This award, presented by Building Green DK and WE BUILD DENMARK, celebrates Dani's lasting impact on steering the building industry towards innovative and regenerative solutions, within planetary boundaries At the forefront of her achievements is her pivotal role in the creation and development of the Reduction Roadmap — both as a science-based tool, then as a campaign that galvanized support from municipalities and major stakeholders across the industry and most recently for her effort to co-author the landmark report, Beyond the Roadmap, representing years of committed research and advocacy. This comprehensive report expands the industry's focus beyond carbon reduction to encompass regenerative practices that support biodiversity, responsible land use, and environmental justice.
