In Copenhagen’s historic Carlsberg City district, between the lush J.C. Jacobsen’s Garden and the striking boiler hall with its iconic chimneys, lies the listed Mineral Water Factory. Considered an architectural masterpiece, the distinctly composed work of architect Carl Harild was originally built to house the production and storage of soft drinks in 1927. However, during its lifetime it has undergone several changes in response to the industrial development and emerging practical needs, and it no longer exists in its original form. With great respect for the historic qualities, we have transformed the building, adding new contemporary layers and functions that adapts to the existing structures, to fill it with a new purpose and bring a new lease of life to the 100-year-old building. Today, the Mineral Water Factory is the only listed building in the Carlsberg City district that has been converted into a residential building. The seamlessly integrated loft apartments are designed as two-storey terraced houses with original columns, beams, and concrete decks preserved and exposed and dark industrial surfaces and warm oak panels creating juxtapositions to the industrial history. In addition to the transformation of the factory, the new adjacent Mineral Water House merges new and old together and completes the neighbourhood’s new block in a coherent 2-1-project. Today, our inspiring client BRFfonden, receives the Danish Association of Architect’s annual developer award “Æreskalejdoskopet” in recognition of their ambitious vision and work with the three crafts colleges in Denmark. With an ambition to strengthen the respect and positive image of the crafts profession, attracting more young people to the field, the colleges have a strong focus on functional and responsible solutions that illustrate how collaboration between various professions can result in high quality design – becoming a one-to-one educational tool for the community of students that will live here for years to come. Together with C.C. Contractor A/S, Artelia Denmark and Kristine Jensen Landscape/ Henning Larsen, we are very proud to be part of the team realising the Crafts College in Herning and look forward seeing the first students move next year. A huge congratulations to the BRF Foundation and the teams behind the other two colleges in Horsens and Roskilde. Copenhagen’s Inner Nordhavn is a unique urban environment, characterised by distinctive, red-toned buildings and large industrial structures that has now been transformed and extended into a diverse city district. Our addition to the burgeoning neighbourhood was completed in 2019. Though it might seem unassuming from the outside, the red brick building was once home to the movie magic of Nordic Film. Today, this vibrant legacy is preserved through Billedvej; a project that aims at achieving the perfect balance between private and public with a combination of housing, businesses, common spaces, and a community atmosphere. The distinct red façade of the existing building has been carefully restored, preserving the building’s original character and industrial aesthetic, while the light, grey aluminum façade of the extension creates a clear transition between new and old. Throughout this year, we are visiting 25 projects from the archive in celebration of the studio's 25th anniversary. Stayed tuned for the final three and visit Billedvej here: https://lnkd.in/dvHG5Gki #dortemandrup #dm25 #fromthearchive #billedvej #aarhusgadekvarteret #nordhavn Images: Adam Mørk

In environments like the Arctic, we are offered the experience of being surrounded by seemingly endless space. With temperatures dropping far below 0 degrees Celsius, windspeeds reaching 29 kph, and vast bodies of snow reshaping the scenery, conditions are truly challenging. At the same time, they form the foundation of existence for both humans and nature. For the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, we wanted to convey the distinct conditions surrounding all Arctic endeavours, including architecture. The installation featured an abstract 1:12 model of Kangiata Illorsua – Ilulissat Icefjord Centre, set in an immersive light and sound scape, allowing visitors to experience the unique conditions of the site. CONDITIONS is project number 21 in our journey through the archive in celebration of the studio's 25th anniversary.
