Respiratory Health Futures 🌱 More than 𝟏.𝟎𝟎𝟎.𝟎𝟎𝟎.𝟎𝟎𝟎 voices stand to be silenced by respiratory diseases and smoking this century. COPD alone is already the 3rd highest leading cause of death with cases set to reach 600 million by 2050. We have no time to waste. At the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies, we’re pushing for a unified approach to respiratory diseases where Health and planetary health becomes a core societal pillar informing all policy developments. With 30% of disease burden deemed avoidable and an environment in need of revitalization, we have a historic opportunity to make lung health and planetary health the cornerstone of the future. 💡 Join us in advocating for: ✔️ A data-driven approach to respiratory health ✔️ Sustainable policies that protect both lung health and planetary health ✔️ Embedding HEALTH-FIRST values into every legislative decision Together, we can tackle our most critical diseases, clean up our planet, and secure a healthier future for all. It is all doable! We at the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies are working hard to advocate for a future we and our children would all like to live in. Om os
The Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies (Instituttet for Fremtidsforskning) is an independent, non-profit futures think tank – founded in 1969. We help people and organisations imagine, work with, and shape their future. The Institute was founded in 1969 by former Danish Finance Minister and OECD-Secretary General, Professor Thorkil Kristensen, with the support of visionary public and private organisations, to better qualify decision-making through futures studies and to contribute to the betterment of our society. That is our purpose. The Institute is today a truly global entity working with public, private, philanthropic, and academic organisations around the world. We act as an advisory, a publisher, an event organiser, and as an initiator of various future orientated joint-venture initiatives. The Institute is also configured as a community of sorts, offering memberships for organisations and individuals. We believe that, as the Institute itself, the future belongs to no-one and yet to everyone. We are by decree here to contribute to the betterment of our society, meaning better for the largest possible number of stakeholders. Our own definition of better is based on our perception of our Nordic values firmly rooted in trust, equality, openness, integrity, and inclusiveness, and a society where critical decisions about the future are based on insights, not intuition. Our research within futures studies is essentially about spotting initial signals, identifying patterns, and convert analysis into insights about potential futures. The Institute does not predict the future, this is of course impossible, but instead we generate the best possibly qualified assumptions for potential futures. All of the Institute’s profits are allocated to further futures studies and to realising our purpose.

Interested in connecting foresight with innovation? 💡🔭 We believe that organisations leveraging foresight can create innovation acting as a dynamic force for positive and meaningful change. In his talks and workshops on the subject, our UK-based Associate Partner Sean Pillot de Chenecey focuses on Foresight-Driven Innovation (FDI), as a catalyst that inspires growth – as illuminated in this recent article published by the World Economic Forum: As you’ll see, the article describes an approach of exploring for potential future outcomes by highlighting ‘friction and opportunity’ spaces for adaptation and transformation c/o a view that solutions are best found in a spirit of being curious, adaptive, and collaborative. End results are intended to be an understanding of strategic consequences, development of appropriate responses, and mobilisation of resources to create change towards a ‘desired future’. Of course, we stress that innovation isn’t limited to a purely branding context, but should instead be seen as including areas such as policy, business model, sustainability, technological and social innovation, etc. In his talks / workshops on FDI, Sean includes insights into leading-edge innovation approaches and futures-thinking, understandings of how multi-sector innovators build success, views on anticipatory-leadership and how to build a ‘Now-Next-Why’ innovation culture. Delegates have given us excellent reviews on his recent talks! So, if you’d like to know more about Foresight-Driven Innovation, or if you’re interested in a speech or workshop on the subject, please reach out to Sean. #Foresight #Innovation #ForesightDrivenInnovation #InnovationStrategy #FDI Carsten Beck – Lasse Jonasson – Martin Kruse – Nabil Ali Jaloud – Toke Hanghøj

🔗 Læs rapporten her: https://lnkd.in/dkaNiUWa Mads Falkenfleth Jensen - Michael Birkjær - Nicklas Larsen - Toke Hanghøj - Thor Svanholm Gustavfson - Jonas Gissel Mikkelsen - Mette Müller Kristensen - Sigrid Kromann Schiøler - Sara Krüger Falk

Denmark ranks poorly in respiratory health 🇩🇰 Denmark ranks alarmingly low on COPD care compared to its OECD counterparts, with the HIGHEST DISEASE BURDEN and the second-highest mortality rate—only surpassed by China. This is unexpected (To say the least!) given Denmark's strong healthcare infrastructure. Delays in Diagnosis: COPD patients in Denmark face long delays in diagnosis, which limits early intervention and worsens outcomes. This issue is compounded by a lack of specialists in lung diseases, a significant barrier to effective treatment. Stigma Around Smoking: COPD remains stigmatised due to its association with smoking, which often leads to less empathy and support for patients. This stigma overshadows the fact that tobacco addiction is highly potent and difficult to overcome. Critical Shortage of Specialists: Denmark faces a significant shortage of specialists in lung medicine, affecting patient outcomes throughout the disease progression. Many hospitalised COPD patients may never see a pulmonologist, limiting their care quality and recovery potential. Need for Individualised Treatment: COPD treatment in Denmark is largely generalised, while personalised care could significantly improve patient outcomes, especially with anticipated advances in biologic treatments. 🌐 Explore the full Denmark Profile in the 2024 COPD Index 👉 https://lnkd.in/dj4t3B3f 🌐 Find out where your own country ranks 👉RespiratoryHealth.org Follow Respiratory Health Initiative and reach out to our health team for more information on the index 👋 Adela Bisak - Joe-Max Wakim - Bogi Eliasen - Manya Lind - Patrick Henry Gallen #respiratoryhealth #futurehealth #preventivehealth #foresight

🎤💡 Testimonial from a participant at our popular course in applied strategic foresight: "In short, this course opened my eyes to a whole new dimension in what regards strategic planning. At first I had some reservations about future foresight techniques, and how to make strategic decisions from them, but both the contents of the course and the the way it was conducted by the team of facilitators at CIFS, really broadened my perspective and convinced me about the great power of the methods and techniques from this field of Futures Studies. I definitely recommend it to any current strategist in all domains." New Innovation Report 📚 Using patient-generated health data more efficient and effectively to facilitate the implementation of value-based healthcare in the EU. We are proud that Aron Szpisjak, Bogi Eliasen and Joe-Max Wakim from our health team contributed to this peer-reviewed innovation report on how to use patient-generated health data as part of the IHI IMPROVE project 🌱 This project aligns perfectly with the Institute's work towards a preventive, personalised and participatory health system. Healthcare services and products are rapidly changing due to the development of new technologies, offering relevant solutions to improve patient outcomes. Patient-Generated Health Data and knowledge-sharing across the European Union (EU) has a great potential of making healthcare provision more effective and efficient by putting the patient at the centre of the healthcare process. While such initiatives have been taken before, a uniting and overarching approach is still missing. The EU-funded IMPROVE project will develop an evidence-based and actual framework to effectively leverage the added value of people-centred integrated healthcare solutions, using predominantly PROMs, PPI, PREMs, and other Patient-Generated Health Data (PGHD). As a result, the project facilitates the effective and efficient implementation of Value-Based Healthcare across the EU by putting the patient central in the healthcare process. Reach out to Aron Szpisjak if you want to know more about our role in the project, and read more here 👉 https://ihi-improve.eu/ Thank you to all who all co-writers and partners on the project! #futurehealth #preventivehealth #healthdata #foresight #patientdata

The Beauty Revolution 💋 The ubiquity of smartphones and social media has turbocharged visual culture. With the addition of increasingly sophisticated and affordable cosmetic surgeries, beauty standards are pushed into strange new territories. The spread of social media, and especially highly visual platforms such as Instagram and the filters that fit so neatly into it, have led to ‘The Age of the Instagram Face’, a term coined by New Yorker writer Jia Tolentino, which describes “a single, cyborgian look […] a young face with poreless skin and plump, high cheekbones […] catlike eyes and long, cartoonish lashes; a small, neat nose and full, lush lips.” Read the full exploration of the beauty revolution 👉 https://lnkd.in/d7qtbECt ✏️ The article is written by Caroline Zielinski and was first published in FARSIGHT - our quarterly futures publication.
