🚀 Looking back on an inspiring week at Slush, we noticed one key trend and some standout startups. The Beyond Beta team spent a lot of time by the Startup Stage, where the recurring theme was crystal clear: AI, AI, and more AI! 🤖 💡Here are some standout startups that caught our attention: Oriole Networks – Revolutionizing energy-efficient AI with advanced photonics to scale AI solutions while tackling global challenges Wondercraft – An AI audio studio transforming podcast production. They offered studio-quality audio content in any language, just by typing Leya – An AI-powered workspace for legal professionals, optimizing contract search and workflow efficiency in the legal sector 🌍 Beyond AI, we were inspired by creative solutions addressing social and health challenges, showcased in the Slush Top 100 finale. These were the three finalists: DevAlly – Making digital products more accessible for people with disabilities by automating recommendations for website improvements Mohana – Empowering women in perimenopause with personalized care plans. Using a blood test and AI-driven insights, they help create actionable lifestyle adjustments via their app OASYS NOW – An AI-powered patient recruitment platform for clinical trials, streamlining recruitment for clinical studies. 🚀 Day 1 of Slush is in the books! It was filled with great keynotes, panels, and fireside chats. Here are some key takeaways: 🔋 We tuned in to Chris Malachowsky, co-founder of NVIDIA who reflected on 30 years of groundbreaking growth. • “You’re not in business to make your idea come true; you’re in business to make your customer successful.” • Nvidia’s success was built on a strong culture where trust, collaboration, and hiring for both “attitude and altitude” were key. • Decision-making is iterative: “Good decisions come from experience, and experience comes from bad decisions.” 💸 Nik Storonsky, founder and CEO of Revolut shared the importance of keeping core capabilities in-house: relying too much on critical vendors can be a risk. • Global expansion is more challenging but can set more ambitious and motivating goals. • Compliance can’t be overlooked, and launching too fast without product-market fit can lead to costly rework. 🤖 Peter Sarlin, co-founder of Silo AI took us through his learnings from bootstrapping. • Bootstrapping requires seeing challenges as opportunities, especially when constrained by limited capital. • Building a strong culture doesn’t take money but relentless effort and a focus on delivering real-world value. • Too much capital can make it harder to stay cost-efficient, so constraints can actually drive focus. Any attempt to scale a company that has not yet found product-market fit is the surest way to fail 📉 That is why one of our mandatory camps for Beyond Beta companies is the product-market fit camp, where they are tested on their knowledge of their customers. Accelerace hosts the camp, teaching the companies about Beachhead and Original Insight, before the mentors facilitate workshops about the subjects.
