The I Saw the TV Glow VOD release is finally here, which means all the queer people who weren’t able to watch this buzzy A24 movie in theaters can now finally catch up to their artsy, movie-theater-going friends.

Written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun—who is also known for their 2021 horror film, We’re All Going to the World’s Fair—I Saw the TV Glow stars Justice Smith as Owen, a lonely, isolated kid growing up in the ’90s. When Owen meets a cool alternative girl named Maddy (Brigette Lundy-Paine), she introduces him to a supernatural TV show called The Pink Opaque. (It’s like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but even gayer.) Together, Owen and Maddy lose themselves completely in the show, finding a comfort in it that they can’t find in their oppressive, suburban real lives.

As the years pass, it becomes clear that Owen doesn’t feel like the man society tells him he must be. Reality begins to distort, and Owen starts to question whether The Pink Opaque was more than just a TV show. It’s a moody, bizarre, and at times horrific psychological journey that speaks to the trans experience, and it’s easily one of the best films of 2024. If you didn’t get a chance to watch the movie when it opened in theaters last month, you definitely don’t want to miss it now.

Beginning on Friday, June 14, you will be able to buy or rent a digital copy of the A24 movie I Saw the TV Glow on platforms like Amazon Prime, Vudu, Apple TV, Google Play, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to buy the film, but on Amazon, the film will cost $24.99 to buy, and $19.99 to rent.

I Saw the TV Glow is not currently available to stream on any subscription-based services, but the film will be coming to HBO’s Max shortly, thanks to the recent 2023 deal between A24 and Warner Bros. Discovery, which brings A24’s previous and upcoming theatrical releases to the streaming service Max.

When will I Saw the TV Glow be streaming on Max?

The I Saw the TV Glow HBO Max release date has not yet been announced, but we can make an educated guess as to when you can expect to see I Saw the TV Glow  on Max. The A24 deal is a “Pay-1 deal,” which means A24 movies will start streaming on Max in the “Pay 1 window,” meaning that Max will be the first “TV channel” to pay for the rights to I Saw the TV Glow, after the film has been released on digital and home media.

The time period for this window, following the movie’s release in theaters, has shortened drastically in the last few years and varies by title. One recent A24 title, The Iron Claw, began streaming on Max, about five months after its release in theaters, and about three months after its release on digital. If I Saw the TV Glow follows a similar release strategy, you’ll see it on Max around October 2024.
