Restate has raised $7 million for its lightweight workflows-as-#code platform, founded by Stephan Ewen, co-creator of Apache Flink. Ewen, along with Flink committers Igal Shilman and Till Rohrmann, aims to simplify distributed #application #development. The platform, known for its speed and efficiency, integrates with AWS Lambda and Cloudflare Workers, making it ideal for microservices, task queues, and service orchestration. Restate’s durable execution engine ensures fault-tolerant #communication between #services. The #company recently launched its managed cloud #service and hit version 1.0 of its open BSL-licensed version. Ewen noted that Restate addresses a need he observed while working on Flink, where users misused it for transactional orchestration due to a lack of better options. The $7 million seed funding round, led by Redpoint #Ventures, includes Essence VC, firstminute capital, and angels like Datadog founder Oli Pomel and Confluent founders Jay Kreps and Neha Narkhede. The #funds will be used to expand the team, build #infrastructure, and extend SDK support beyond #TypeScript, Java, and Kotlin. #Restate Cloud is now in early access, free for users as the team explores monetization strategies.
