This is a breath of fresh air. I've found in recent years that more and more nonprofits want work donated. If you can get great quality from donated work that is fine but my experience in the Web Accessibility space is that even organizations that serve the disabled don't have websites that meet The Americans with Disability Act requirements for websites. If you can't communicate with the people you serve you've got a big problem. Pay someone who understands the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to help you with your website so your website is more usable for everyone. #AccessibleWeb #WorkSmarter #Usability #WCAG

I'm working on building an online community for my neighborhood and need a platform that makes it easy for people to connect, ask questions, and share ideas. Criteria: ✅  Must be accessible to all ages ✅  Must have some kind of forum/information swapping element ✅  Must be somewhat affordable (we have some budget but not huge) ✅  Forums/questions/discussions can be sent via email ✅  Must have extremely easy to use interface and instant onboarding process. Any ideas? I looked at Circle but it seems more geared towards online businesses. We currently have a presence on Nextdoor but it's not great as our feeds get polluted with info from adjoining neighborhoods. Also considered Workplace from Meta as I use it for another group and love it, but feel this is not user-friendly enough for older generations and I worry about onboarding. It's also a bit overkill. Any ideas or suggestions on where to look?

In my book - 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 - one of the few people I quoted was Jan Chipchase, not just once, but twice. …… QUOTE 1: “While local agencies and freelancers could offer cultural insights, there is a potential risk that their own biases about the local market and users could affect the research process and results. For example, they might focus more on aspects of the culture that they are familiar with, interpret data in a way that is consistent with their own beliefs, or overlook local nuances that they are familiar with, yet are crucial insights for the business. As Jan Chipchase stated in The Field Study Handbook: ‘Local moderators or researchers can be a valuable asset to any international research project, but they should be used with caution’. He goes on to say ‘It’s important to be aware of the potential biases that local moderators or researchers may have, and to take steps to mitigate these biases.’” (Page 53, Chapter 7) QUOTE 2: “It may not be immediately obvious to many researchers that understanding the organisational culture and operational processes of your clients or stakeholders is highly relevant to how you might choose to present your international research findings and recommendations. Each organisation, along with its teams, has its unique culture and subcultures, influencing how they operate, interpret and utilise insights and data, as well as how they make business decisions. As a researcher, it is invaluable to gauge the level of attention that the team and stakeholders you work with are willing to devote to what you deliver and convey. Jan Chipchase described this as ‘organisation metabolism’. He notes that each organisation has a different kind of metabolism for information that they are comfortable acting on. I'm launching my newsletter next week, and I'm creating a set of editorial rules that I'm going to hold myself accountable to. The newsletter is tentatively going to be titled "What Does The Data Say?" (Only because "Another f***ing newsletter" seemed too on the nose.) Every other week, I'll publish a newsletter that answers today's most pressing marketing questions with data and research. My entire goal is to give marketing leaders the numbers to help them make better decisions. Some of that is providing quantitative benchmarks for what good, bad and average looks like across performance and spending. But it'll also shed light on what to consider when you're building a team, allocating a budget or buying software. I've always told my content strategy clients to create editorial rules for themselves, because when you limit yourself to what you will and won't do, it gives you remarkable freedom to be prolific. Of all the things I could write about, and all the ways I could write about them, these rules will help me stick to the plan, which is to provide valuable data for marketing decision makers. And so my rules for myself are: 1) Everything I write will be based on research and data, whether its my own or from another reputable source. There are plenty of people who write based on their experience, knowledge or opinions, but my job is to provide the research and data to help you make your own decisions. 2) I will not write in absolutes. The truth is, everything is nuanced, and requires thoughtful analysis. So that means I won't ever declare any trend/technology or practice is "dead," nor will I ever rank something as the "Best." I will deal in nuance, and frameworks to help guide decisions, not make them for you. 3) I will not indulge in renaming stuff. I will not reinvent terms for things that already exist (e.g. inbound, outbound, inbound-led outbound, nearbound etc. zero-click marketing.) It's not that I don't think there's room for innovation in how we speak/think about marketing practices. I would much rather write about, and research stuff that people are already familiar with, so that we can talk about topics with a common understanding. Again, this is aspirational , but I'm publishing these rules here in the hope that my audience will help me stick to them. Is there anything you would add?

Pivoting is like connecting with your market better, and making better business decisions. It serves the two biggest purposes of Business; Creating Value for Consumers, and Generating Revenue for Business. A running business is more than just an idea. It faces many ground realities that the idea didn't. So slow down, or take a slightly different path when the road is too rough. There is no shame in this. It only makes you a better Business Person!

I’ve loved the #FounderMode conversations, but let’s be real: some of it feels founder-centric to the point of self-absorption. That’s why Molly Graham’s insights hit home. Nailing #FounderMode means mastering how to scale yourself as a founder. It’s not just about hiring talent—you need to know who thrives in your orbit and be crystal clear about it. One of my biggest mistakes? Not doing that early enough. Graham also brilliantly outlines the traits of an effective startup operator: - Asking incisive questions - Solving problems from first principles - Translating founder vision into actionable plans - Embracing an experimentation mindset: try, fail, learn, iterate - A product mindset: prioritizing customer-centric, scalable solutions - The ability to speak truth to power and a willingness to fight battles/negotiate for the important things - Organizing and motivating people to get things done The role of an effective startup operator isn’t to be a “yes person” to the founder, "but rather to fundamentally understand the DNA of the founder and the company, and partner with the founder to build the strongest company possible." As founders, our job is to be humble, curious, and self-aware enough to recognize this.
