✨ Whose problem am I the most valuable solution for? ✨ Yesterday, I attended an insightful talk by the amazing Rainer Petek (described as the German Tony Robbins) who challenged us as keynote speakers to think deeply about this question. It resonated with me because, as speakers, it’s not just about sharing our knowledge – it’s about solving problems for the right audience. The value of this question lies in its power to focus us on impact. It shifts our mindset from delivering generic talks to offering tailored solutions for specific challenges. When we ask ourselves, "Whose problem am I solving?" it leads us to clarity about our message, audience, and purpose. For me, as a keynote speaker on leadership communication for senior executives, this question provides focus. The problem I solve is helping senior leaders communicate with more authenticity, authority, and influence. In an era where leaders are expected to inspire and engage through every word, I empower them with advanced public speaking skills that elevate their leadership. I’m a painter as much as I’m a psychotherapist. This weekend I did a series of paintings called the “Spaceship” series. The image below comes from this series. I want to emphasize how strongly creativity leads to personal growth. Carl Jung would be the 1st to agree with me. Carl Jung, the renowned Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, incorporated art into his therapeutic practice and personal development. His journey offers valuable insights for professionals and individuals alike: 1.      Jung urges everyone to embrace the unconscious. Jung used art to access and explore the unconscious mind. By allowing ourselves to create without judgment, we can tap into deeper layers of our psyche and gain new insights. 2.       Jung valued symbolism as a tool for self-discovery. Jung's work with archetypes and symbols demonstrates how visual representation can reveal hidden aspects of our personality and help us understand ourselves better. 3.      Jung urged his patients to integrate of opposites. Through his artwork, Jung explored the concept of integrating opposing forces within oneself. This process of reconciliation can lead to personal growth and a more balanced psyche. 4.       Jung prescribed artistic expression as a meditative practice. Jung's creation of mandalas showcases how art can be a form of meditation, promoting mindfulness and self-reflection. Jung continued his artistic practices throughout his life as I have done. His art exploration, illustrates that creative expression is a powerful tool for ongoing personal development and self-understanding. From the works of Meister Eckhart and Martin Heidegger. We begin to understand the evolution of concepts we see today. The differenece between "meditative contemplation" versus "calculative thinking". When we engage in the former (infrequently), we are open to mystery and see ourselves as part of the larger whole. When we are actively pursuing the latter (more than we should), we are projecting our wants and needs on to the world to figure things out. For me, this is seeing versus solving. Once we pick a desired endpoint, the tunnel vision begins and we literally stop seeing the world around us because we are so focused on the "goal". We are no longer a part of the whole because we are using the world to get what we want/need. This is self-actualizaton versus self-transcendence in practice. It is "me" not "we". Heidegger said the gelassenheit had two main attributes that sounds pretty good to me: - releasement (both "from" and "to") - openness to mystery Leading requires gelassenheit. It requires an openness to our world because truly leading is simply enabling what is trying to happen...to happen. To bring forth into the world that which benefits the world. Coaching is not this mystical thing! It in not a magic wand! It is a conversation! And you "have to be ready" for it to bear fruits. Could there be AHA moments? Sure. Can it be transformational? Of course! Is this happening for everybody? No! There are some prerequisites to it: - self awareness - a problem or (even better) a desire, a wish an objective - a tension between the current state and the future state - motivation & willingness to work assisted by a coach - chemistry, trust and an overall partnership with the coach I believe that part of the problem with this mystical and unprofessional tag that coaching is getting lately is due to the enthusiasm of the persons who had great results and became coaches themselves. If the push is too great the reaction will be accordingly. When treated like a cult it will polarise people. And it's only normal. If this enthusiasm is too big it is not coaching positioning anymore. It is preaching, mentoring, anything else. On the other hand I strongly believe more people should do a Coaching School. In all my experience in training there is no other place than a good Coaching School to train self awareness, listening, mindset, questioning, working with beliefs and much more. These are skills required in any job but especially in leadership and in a future with AI. This will make you both a better prompt engineer as a partner at home and a better friend. ICF Germany CoachingLAB 2024 was incredible! Leaders gathered for a future of ethical coaching and positive societal impact. 🌟 Reflecting on the event, the community's passion was contagious. The hardest part of solopreneurship? Detaching. The lines quickly get blurred between: - Weekdays and weekends - Daily start and finish time - IST, ET, and PT 🌍🕞 - Client consultations and debriefs And yet, it’s incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. One key learning I haven’t yet mastered? Get outside as much as possible. When you’re outside, be fully present—no agenda, no task list, just a chance to disconnect. 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀? They need sparring partners.  Sparring unlocks hidden potential. It fuels continuous improvement. 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀, it challenges thinking. It refines strategic decisions. 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀, pair programming is key. Code reviews catch errors early. AND JUST AS IMPORTANT... Be a 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 sparring partner too. It's about giving as well as taking. I always discuss my work with peers. It helps me stay sharp and relevant. 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀! P.S.
