AUTOHAUS - one of the leading automotive publishing houses in Germany - and the market research company puls publish the “AUTOHAUS BankenMonitor” annually in the last 17 years. For this purpose, over 1.000 car dealers have been interviewed about their satisfaction working with captives and non-captives in the last weeks again. Wednesday evening the closing event for 2024 took place at the Drivers Club Munich, moderated by the Autohaus publishing director Ralph M. Meunzel (picture, left) and Dr. Konrad Wessner, CEO puls Marktforschung. For me, also from a CX, sales and marketing perspective, it was a very interesting evening to listen, discuss and compare developments and current general market requirements around Germany's new car market. Especially, as captive finance / leasing is still playing a major role in our new car business and affects the complete business today and tomorrow. I get more and more questions about Google Vehicle Feed in Germany and how to participate. I would like to take the opportunity to share more information with all of you. 🤔 What is the current status of Vehicle Ads in Germany? In Germany, Vehicle Ads is currently in a closed beta with a limited number of dealers. The product has not yet been fully rolled out. 🤔 And in other countries? Vehicle Ads are also available as a closed beta in several other European markets. In Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, Vehicle Ads are running in open beta for advertisers. 🤔 What does Closed Beta mean? The ad solution Vehicle Ads has not yet been fully rolled out to every advertiser in Germany (and other European countries, see above) – only some have access and can currently test it. 🤔 What do I do if I have questions about the closed beta? If you have any questions about the closed beta, you can reach out to our EMEA GTM Lead @Christin Herges. 🤔 And when will Vehicle Ads be generally available? There is currently no specific timeline. We will communicate clearly on the progress of the rollout. 🤔 Why should I rely on Vehicle Ads as a dealer? With these innovative vehicle ads, car dealers can reach potential buyers at exactly the right moment and convince them with all the important information: pictures of the car, price, mileage - everything at a glance! 🤩 Vehicle Ads are part of our Performance Max campaign offering, meaning buyers can be reached via Google Search as well as YouTube, Gmail and Discovery. 🤔 How are the tests going? What are the initial results? We have received a lot of positive feedback so far from a variety of different automotive advertisers and already got quite a few external case studies published. By showcasing actual vehicles with images and pricing details, Feser-Graf, a family-owned automotive dealer chain from Germany, saw 18% higher sell-through ​c​onversions and ​drove a ​41% decrease in CPL. Another example is from Carwow, an online marketplace from the UK, saw an 85% increase in revenue at a 21% higher ROAS. 🤔 Who can use Vehicle Ads? Only traditional car dealers? Vehicle ads support both new and used vehicle inventory from dealers, retailer stock, aggregators or original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Anyone who can fulfill the feed and landing page requirements can participate. Vehicle ads from private sellers, individuals or auto brokers aren't permitted. Stellantis Commits to an All-Electric Future by 2030 in Europe 🚗🔋 Despite growing doubts about the rapid shift away from combustion engines, Stellantis remains steadfast in its commitment to sell only fully electric vehicles in Europe by 2030. While some manufacturers like Mercedes and Ford are revising their strategies and extending the life of combustion engines and hybrids, Stellantis European head Uwe Hochgeschurtz is clear: “The electric car is the much better car.” Stellantis stands firm in its vision, undeterred by market uncertainties and competitors’ adjustments. Want a big job even with a traditional OEM? Increasingly, you need to have EV success on your resume. What do the following have in common: Martin Sander, new board member for sales, marketing and after sales at Volkswagen Frank-Steffen Dr. Walliser, new CEO at Bentley Motors Sherry House, CFO elect at Ford Motor Company Luca Napolitano, new chief sales and marketing officer at Stellantis Christine Feuell, new CEO at RAM Rory Harvey, new president, global markets at General Motors Dr. Manfred Harrer, new executive vice-president and head of Genesis & Performance Development Tech unit at Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차)? All are fast-rising executives at so-called legacy OEMs that have been hired or promoted at least in part because of their experience in successfully driving electrification initiatives. The leadership teams, and in time the boardrooms too, of automotive firms are changing. C-suites that knew only of ICE coming up will age out and their replacements will need to have the skills required for a future when most sales will be electrified, if not fully electric. So don't believe anything you read about OEMs turning their back on the e-mobility revolution. Their hiring trends tell you they know they're only just beginning. Day 2 at the Reuters Automotive Europe 2024. Onca again great insight, interview with Hyundai (Andreas-Christoph Hofmann) Volkswagen (Arno Antlitz) and Renault Italy (Raffaele Fusilli ) really shed some light at the different struggles of the current transition all automotive OEMs are facing. I take back a couple of potentially great ideas thanks to Wegrow (Elena Rodet 🌎 ) and Hive MQ (Diana Böttcher ). Let’s see if we can make something happen here. But the main take away so far is the interest in the market entries of the Chinese EV OEMs and their current competitive advantages. Therefore I am planning to focus on them on my next series. While, to some extent, I sympathise with European OEM's stance on the ZEV mandate in the absence of real Governmental support I can't help but feel that the Korean brands in particular are leading the way in showing how it can be done. Following a record breaking sales year for KIA across all drivetrains last year, 49% of the 60,000 new vehicles sold in the UK in H1 2024 were hybrid, PHEV or BEV with over 20% of these being fully electric... in line with ZEV targets. Well built & attractive vehicles (at least in comparison to years gone by) with great infotainment systems, highly-efficient batteries, 800v architecture and price points that are competitive in the modern market are compelling drivers out of their German cars and proving that by delivering great products that customers want to buy, ZEV-mandated targets are not unachievable. I think too many European OEM's have put out product that just isn't good enough to encourage drivers to transition, and are now panicking that they can't have it their own way in doing what they have always done.
