2026, I stand by my estimate, will be the year of the solid state battery in production.   Over 400Wh/kg, 40% lower manufacturing costs, higher safety should be presented. I think service life and robust manufacturing processes are still difficult steps, especially with solid electrolytes.    At least SAIC is now committing itself and underpinning my assessment. Other manufacturers have also written a lot about this in recent months and with the intermediate steps of the semi-solid-state battery, SSSB has ambitions to use them this year (Nio and also SAIC)   However, my assumption is supported much more by the consortium called China All-Solid-State Battery Collaborative Innovation Platform (CASIP). This is an alliance of major Chinese battery manufacturers, tech companies and car manufacturers (e.g. CATL, CALB, EVE Energy, SVOLT, Gotion High-Tech, BYD battery subsidiary FinDreams, BYD and Nio) with the aim of developing and producing competitive solid-state batteries and establishing supply chains. A PwC study covering 82% of global new car sales reveals BEV sales in Germany fell 18% year-on-year in Q2 2024, impacting the EU-5 market. 👉 Meanwhile, China saw a 13% rise in BEV sales and a doubling of plug-in hybrid sales to over one million. Without China, global BEV growth would be just 3%. Chinese EV exports to Europe are expected to reach 440,000 units, surpassing the 325,000 European exports to China. When the VDA, the cause of the issue, realizes that the fire sales have begun and they only ever stood in the way of change. Well documented: continued poor judgement and mismanagement of historic proportions. And we all know it when we look. VDA and German politics are all complicit in the ongoing mismanagement of the fossil auto industry. #digitalmobility

Pressurized gas (liquefied) electrolyte is a new variant that joins the series of liquid electrolyte, solid electrolyte, semi-solid electrolyte.   It is supposed to be better for charging at low temperatures, safer and less costly. The funding round was co-led by World Fund and Porsche Ventures and included Bosch Ventures, DTCF | DeepTech & Climate Fonds, NRW.Global Business. This marks the largest funding ever raised by a European battery recycling company and the first co-investment from Porsche and Bosch in Germany. Founded in 2022, cylib emerged from research at RWTH Aachen University and is led by CEO Lilian Schwich, CTO Paul Sabarny, and COO Dr Gideon Schwich. The company plans to use the funds to industrialize its proprietary recycling technology at a secured industrial facility in Germany, catering to leading OEMs and battery manufacturers. cylib technology enables the recycling of every component in a lithium-ion battery, achieving over 90% efficiency while reducing environmental impact by 30% compared to competitors. The company aims to address the rising demand for battery recycling, driven by the growth of electric vehicles, and ensure the resilience of European battery supply chains. The funding will also support further hiring and the scaling of cylib’s operations, positioning it as a leading battery recycler in Europe. This initiative represents a significant step towards enhancing the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of battery charging for heavy goods traffic. It establishes the foundation of infrastructure alternatives by developing systems that allow batteries to be swapped quickly and efficiently, thereby increasing the range and uptime of electric vehicles in the European transport sector. Battery Swapping systems are particularly suited to accommodate the unique and dynamically changing requirements of eTrailer users. This will result in greater vehicle availability due to reduced charging times, improved operational efficiency, and decreased reliance on conventional charging infrastructure. The estimated swapping time of 5 minutes and the selection of multiple battery modules according to the required uses case not only improves the efficiency of the logistics process in electrified heavy goods transportation, but also the commercial parameters. A few details are needed. ➡️ The source of the ranking is the institute lead by Stefan Bratzel, Prof. Dr.: Center of Automotive Management (CAM) ➡️ the 2023 BEV Sales ranking on the right is straightforward ➡️ the column on the left is listing GEELY as leader for 2023 ➡️ interesting how neither Tesla or BYD took the top spot on the left, and where they are placed for 2023. ➡️ the long term ranking by innovation reads: 1 Tesla 2 Volkswagen Group 3 Geely 4 BYD 5 Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차) *** ➡️ Methodology for the 2023 ranking: CAM individually evaluated 512 innovations in electromobility for the past year alone that ended up in the sold product.
