Emerging technologies use #stacked #intelligent #metasurfaces (#SIMs) for #holographic #MIMO communication systems. A key question is how to maximize the amount of information that can be transmitted between the sender and receiver. To address this challenge, the authors utilize the "#channel #cutoff #rate" (CR) instead of directly using mutual information to characterize how much information can be transmitted. They propose an "alternating projected gradient method" (#APGM) that optimizes the CR for a SIM-based MIMO system.
