I am a critical spatial theorist and educator. Educated in Germany and the UK, I received my PhD in Architecture from Strathclyde University, Glasgow, for research on the mechanisms of themed environments. As one of the founding members of the architectural workers cooperative Glasgow Letters on Architecture and Space, a practice that worked at the intersection of theory and practice, we produced alternatives to the capitalist production and consumption of space. In 2006, I co-instigated the research project 'Spatial Agency. Other Ways of Doing Architecture' as a means to gather, analyse and describe architecture beyond the object beautiful. The project 'Architecture is Climate' continues this work, though focussing more directly on the entanglement of architecture with the forces that shape it.

In the face of epochal urban transformations and increasing socio-spatial inequalities in many parts of the world, my research and teaching engages with case studies that foster principles of justice and bridges the profession, practice and education of architecture. It is particularly concerned with the social, economic and political parameters within and through which architectures and cities are made and the tools and methodologies that allow citizens to intervene transformatively in the production of space.
