Evidence like bird remains or "snarge" is collected and identified, sometimes with airport biologists' help or DNA testing. The aircraft is assessed for damage, and wildlife management plans are reviewed and improved to prevent future incidents. In a written statement to Parliament, the UK Foreign Secretary (David Lammy) has announced the suspension of certain export licences to Israel. “around 30” of the 350 export licences granted to Israel have been suspended including aircraft components and components that facilitate air to ground targeting. Lammy emphasised that this “is not a blanket ban” nor is it “an arms embargo” and the government will continually review its position. The UK’s Export Control Joint Unit (“ECJU”) has published a notice summarising the licences suspended and the impact on exporters, who will be contacted by the ECJU to confirm the decision. The ECJU has also amended the following open general licences: open general export licence (exports in support of Joint Strike Fighter: F-35 Lightning II); open general export licence PCBs and components for military goods; open general export licence technology for military goods; open general export licence software and source code for military goods; open general trade control licence for category C goods; and open general trade control licence trade and transportation: small arms and light weapons. Senators urge pilot retirement age rise as experience leads to fewer accidents In the letter published on November 20, 2024, lead signee Senator Marsha Blackburn and her colleagues said that data supported the argument that “experienced pilots have fewer accidents than junior pilots”. According to the letter, the ICAO recently “advanced formal action directed at raising or even eliminating the institution’s recommended pilot retirement age of 65 years” at the 14th Air Navigation Conference. The Campaign for Better Transport has written to the Chancellor @RachelReevesMP urging her to reform VED. CfBT leads a Pay-as-you-drive Forum, which comprises 37 organisations including transport industry and sector bodies, NGOs and think tanks. CPT has participated in this forums. While different members of the Forum have slightly different perspectives, all would support a Treasury move on vehicle taxation, believing it is important that ZEV drivers should fairly contribute. Recognising that for the UK to meet its net zero carbon targets many more people must be persuaded to use public transport more often, CPT argues the introduction of pay-as-you-go vehicle taxation could support this shift.
