Deutsche Bahn halts tender for up to 95 high speed trains of new generation Since announcing the tender last December, the national German operator has not received any bid, as the T-Online news portal sites Deutsche Bahn’s spokesperson (for more information on the tender, see https://lnkd.in/euZhMAaH). The firm part of the €1 bln tender included the supply of 33 trains. The units of up to 400 m in length would accommodate 940 passengers seated and operate at a maximum speed of 300 km/h. The first two prototypes were planned to be delivered for testing in 2031, with the vehicles’ serial production to be launched in 2032. It was envisaged that the new fleet would replace the ageing ICE 1 and ICE 3 trains. Siemens Mobility and Alstom could become potential bidders for this procurement. After previously winning a tender for consultancy contracts, both manufacturers together with the German operator developed initial concepts for the new-generation ICE 5 trainsets (see https://lnkd.in/diRK9mP7 for details). Distribusion Technologies has won the tender to develop a multi-carrier sales solution enabling Deutsche Bahn to supplement their portfolio with international rail connections outside of Germany such as SBB, Trenitalia, SNCF, and ÖBB. The solution is based on Distribusion’s new OSDM-Connector, which allows simplified cross-selling amongst European rail carriers. In other words, this allows carriers to consume and retail any other European rail carrier and at the same time offer the standard to any retailing body. GCU Practice Conference 2024: Navigating upcoming changes 🛤️   This year's BahnVerstand – Beratung im Schienenverkehr GCU practice conference focussed on the future of the GCU (General Contract of Use for Wagons) and the urgent need for rail transport companies to prepare for the upcoming changes. #PROSE-employee Dr. Bernhard Frei was present and reported on how #PROSE is increasingly advising rail transport companies on organisational development in connection with GCU tasks. The GCU landscape is changing and many rail transport companies are not prepared for the upcoming changes. In a recent interview, Dr. Bernhard Frei explained that while #PROSE has its roots in rolling stock engineering, it has evolved to support clients in broader areas such as ECM and SMS (Safety Management Systems), helping rail companies navigate the complex relationships between keepers, operators and organisational change. Historic Record at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport #IstanbulSabihaGökçenAirport, Turkey’s second busiest and one of Europe’s top 10 busiest airports, set a new record on Saturday, July 13th, by hosting 133,455 passengers in a single day. The previous record was set on August 20, 2023, with 132,097 passengers. Major Achievement in 2023 Passenger Numbers Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen achieved significant success in 2023, ending the year with a total of 37.1 million passengers. According to the European International Airports Council (#ACIEUROPE) data, Sabiha Gökçen ranks second in the ‘mega airports’ category, which accommodates 25 to 40 million passengers annually, with a 13.2% increase. Second Runway and New Airport Routes With the addition of the second runway, Sabiha Gökçen Airport has increased its passenger capacity, contributing significantly to Turkish tourism. As of 2024, the airport has expanded #Istanbul ’s global connectivity by opening 9 new international routes. Known as the “city’s airport” due to its diverse urban transportation options and proximity to city centers, Sabiha Gökçen serves 40 domestic and 124 international destinations in 54 countries. Future of Operations & Maintenance 2025 - Innovative solutions for digital train positioning & inventory optimization​ 🚆   Deutsche Bahn's maintenance depots are crucial for the maintenance and repair of the entire train and wagon fleet. With a focus on reliability, safety and efficiency, these factories ensure that rolling stock remains operational. By using new technologies, maintenance facilities aim to overcome challenges such as digital train positioning markers and efficient inventory management. Within our 100-days proof-of-concept (PoC) will would like to test innovative technologies that can have a lasting impact on the future of operations. Two key use cases are presented below that highlight the requirements and future visions for improved maintenance and operations:   Digital train positioning markers 📍 At the moment train drivers rely on physical signs at stations to know exactly where to stop their trains, which can vary in length. ​Can you develop a system that integrates train length data with platform length to provide a precise digital stopping point, ensuring consistent and accurate positioning regardless of spontaneous platform changes?​   Smart inventory management ⚒️ The DB maintains large inventory of spare parts to service various train models across numerous maintenance facilities in Germany. Here are some key trends to watch:   High-speed rail expansion: High-speed rail networks are rapidly expanding. By connecting major cities more efficiently and reducing travel time, these newtorks will encourage more people to choose trains over planes or cars. 🚆   🌱🌍 Sustainability and green energy: Rail travel is already one of the greenest ways to travel, emitting 20 times less CO2 on average, and this will only get better. The future will see increased adoption of renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar, to power trains. The newer section of the #Westbahn (Western Railway), a key line in #Austria which connects #Vienna, #Linz and #Salzburg, “will not be passable for a long time”, the country’s railway holding ÖBB stated. At Railee (ex-Trainscanner), we understand that comfort is subjective, especially when it comes to night trains. 🚂-🛌-🛌 Unfortunately, booking platforms like SNCF Connect & Tech, Deutsche Bahn often fall short, providing no photos of the sleeping arrangements. Leaving night trains as one of the last hospitality services purchased sight unseen. For those not familiar with the options, it can be extremely difficult to know what you're getting. No photos, no details on the services offered. That's why at Railee (ex-Trainscanner), we've developed an interface that allows users to visualize the various cabins and comfort levels offered by different rail companies.
