Global competition is real - on many different levels, not just for individuals, but also for countries. Germany should not fall behind - and has to invest into infrastructure to attract innovative and leading companies (as well as incentivize startups). Gisma University of Applied Sciences did an interesting study on how travel with train and flight compare in Germany - the result: Flying is always cheaper. A surprise? Maybe - as the train has many advantages. How can the trend be reversed? Read my comments in this article published by Berliner Morgenpost GmbH: https://lnkd.in/eJKWCuFP By the way: some important players in this competitions which need to be mentioned: Deutsche Bahn Lufthansa Austrian Airlines Flix #infrastructure #deutschebahn #fliegen

There are many things that can be criticised in the proposal of the Bundesnetzagentur regarding the 2025 mobile spectrum allocation, not only the fact that no auction is foreseen and, as the Bundeskartellamt pointed out, a fourth MNO may not be forthcoming under these conditions, but also the quite general conceptional point that without access obligation, there is simply no reason for MNOs to provide access to service providers. That this is detrimental to customers of mobile services and also reduces investments in the mobile network should be obvious. Why the Bundesnetzagentur is going down that road is less clear. Check out the paper of my co-authors and myself on these points. #spectrum #auction #Bundesnetzagentur #Verhandlungsgebot #Diensteanbieterverpflichtung #competition

#40YearsWHU #courage #commitment #foresight 2,000 WHU based start-ups created 100.000 jobs The story of #WHU – #OttoBeisheimSchoolofManagement – is a testament to how a visionary idea, a pioneering spirit, and a bit of luck can disrupt the traditional education model and transform an institution into a global leader in business education and entrepreneurship. Founded with the bold ambition of creating a business school by the business, #WHU’s origins seemed, like a pipe dream. But #courage, #commitment, and #foresight turned this dream into reality. The school's intangible asset—the #WHUSpirit—is driven by highly committed professors, creative and ambitious students, and customer-centric staff, all supported by the generosity of donors and alumni #inpraxi. #WHU became not just a business school, but a community grounded in #trust, #collaboration, and a relentless pursuit of #excellence. The school's research powerhouse status today is a testament to this. 15% of WHU’s student seats are free of tuition fees, reflecting its commitment to making #talent the deciding factor in admission, not financial status. Key figures, like #HorstAlbach and #DonJacobs, were instrumental in shaping the school's #vision, making bold moves such as forming partnerships with prestigious institutions like #KelloggBusinessSchool and #BuceriusLawSchool. This global collaboration aimed to create cross-cultural learning experiences and develop visionary leaders capable of navigating the complexities of a globalized world. #WHU's DNA is unique, with a deep focus on #entrepreneurship and #creatingvalue. The school has incubated over 2,000 spin-offs, transforming ideas from the lab into real-world businesses. These ventures have generated over 100,000 jobs, making WHU Europe’s most efficient start-up generator relative to its budget. Looking ahead to the next 40 years, WHU is committed to attracting, shaping, and challenging the innovators and game-changers of tomorrow. The future, as WHU sees it, lies at the intersection of business and science. Business schools must not only prepare leaders for the #VUCA world, but also for the brittle, anxious, non-linear, and incomprehensible #BANI future. Leaders like #FrancescaCornelli, Dean of #Kellogg, share this vision. Empathetic and inclusive leadership in times of constant disruption is essential, she argues, and business schools have a crucial role to play in fostering societal dialogue. The future of education is about creating a "center of enlightened disagreement," where leaders can understand and engage with differing perspectives to shape a better world. At its core, #WHU is about more than just education—it’s about creating responsible, successful leaders and entrepreneurs who will navigate the challenges of the future with courage and commitment for 20-30 years. As #OttoBeisheim’s legacy lives on, the school continues to prove that business can be a force for good, guiding where we go as a society. #WeareWHU

Thank you very much to ZDF Morgenmagazin for inviting me this morning. I argue that Germany needs an innovation agenda 2030 to unlock the full potential of its economy and overcome the current stagnation, probably even exceeding in scope the extent of the famous Agenda 2010. The core of this agenda should be to fuel innovation and reignite economic growth, including addressing structural issues and improving investment conditions, while cutting bureaucracy and subsidies. Excited to share that anp Management Consulting's in-depth analysis of China's #automotiveproduction landscape was published today in #Automobilwoche Online! 🇨🇳🚗 Some key findings from the study: China has built up massive automotive production capacity, with 169 passenger car factories able to produce nearly 30 million vehicles annually. In 2023, around 26.1 million passenger cars were produced in China, of which about 5 million were exported. The top 15 #OEMs in #China operate 102 of the 169 auto plants and dominate the production landscape. Geely has the largest production capacity with 13 factories able to make up to 2.7 million cars per year, followed by Great Wall Motors (2M) and #BYD (1.8M). 32.5% of China's auto plants are concentrated in just 3 eastern coastal provinces: #Guangdong, #Jiangsu and #Zhejiang. China's overcapacity and regional concentration pose major challenges for the industry going forward. China's auto industry has grown tremendously, but also faces challenges ahead as it seeks to utilize #overcapacity and expand globally. With a dedicated team of 40 specialists in #marketintelligence and #competitiveintelligence, ANP is uniquely positioned to provide #OEMs and Automotive #Suppliers with in-depth and investigative insights needed to navigate the complexities of the #Chinese #market. The Government Tomorrow Forum focusses on an aspect that I feel is clearly missing out in the current Responsible AI discussion. The EU AI Act is an important building block in a RAI strategy on the part of the public sector, but it is not enough to address the impact the AI era will have on society and the economy. It is long overdue for this discussion to pick up speed. I am therefore very pleased to be able to contribute here. #responsibleAI #AI #aiethics #government

Delighted to share my contribution to the new book: "Soziale Nachhaltigkeit – Pflicht oder Kür?". It was a great opportunity to work with Joanna Radeke, director of the ESMT Institute for Sustainable Transformation and director of Sustainability at ESMT Berlin, on our chapter "The Historical Development of the Concept of Sustainability," which dives into the origins of social sustainability and how it has evolved over time. From 19th-century workplace initiatives to today's corporate responsibilities, we examine the lessons history offers for companies striving to balance the needs of shareholders and stakeholders. 💡 This book, presented at the Frankfurt Book Fair, takes a comprehensive and practical look at the importance and implementation of social sustainability in companies. The perspectives of 49 authors, including supervisory board chairpersons, CHROs, institutional investors, trade union representatives, and academics, flow into this anthology and offer valuable insights into corporate practice. It was a pleasure to contribute to this volume and I look forward to your feedback on it. 📖 If you are interested in understanding the roots of sustainability and its relevance today, you can order the book here: https://lnkd.in/eH8Q6vcT @hkp///group #socialsustainability #ESG #sustainability

The future is electric! Yesterday, I was part of a panel discussion at the climate conference #KlimaKon24 from DER SPIEGEL and #BCG in Berlin. The topic: ‘Transformation paths for Germany – between crisis and climate protection’. Moderated by Gerald Traufetter I discussed together with Dr. Franziska Brantner Anne-Marie Großmann Siegfried Russwurm and Thilo Schumacher about how we can successfully continue the important path to carbon neutrality despite major economic and geopolitical challenges – in Germany and beyond. One thing is clear: Achieving CO2-neutrality is a task for all of us, and one in which all our business areas play a crucial role: from e-mobility in the #automotive industry to #greensteel and #sustainability in the financial market. At Opel, we are convinced that attractive offers for electric mobility combined with clear and stable political framework conditions will ensure the long-term success of electric cars and increase customer acceptance. A clear political line and thus planning security are important for all of us – especially in the automotive industry due to the long-term development cycles and investment horizons. We therefore support maintaining the ban on combustion engines in 2035 by the EU. Our job as a manufacturer is to work on the attractiveness and affordability of our products – and this year we have come a long way: Opel is the first German carmaker to offer a completely electric product range. From 2025, every newly introduced Opel will be purely electric. And we want to further democratize e-mobility: The Corsa Electric YES! starts at €30,000, our new Frontera Electric can already be ordered for under €29,000. And in the near future we will be launching an electric vehicle for €25,000. We are tackling the challenges of these times and driving change forward. This is particularly true at our sites in Germany, where we are investing heavily to make them fit for the age of e-mobility. This cannot be taken for granted, as the costs of development, production and energy abroad are often significantly lower than those in our country. We want to continue to make our contribution to prosperity, high social standards and jobs in #Germany. #Opel #ForeverForward #Electrification #Cars #EV #ClimateChange #Sustainability #Innovation #Management #AutomotiveIndustry More to read about the conference here: https://lnkd.in/efnPg_nE

@Schuldensuehner (on X (Twitter)) - US 10y yields are back >4% as the "no landing" scenario is incompatible w/10y yields south of 4%. And the higher oil price is also driving up yields. https://lnkd.in/gArVDiGx TNTT - If the thought behind the increase in yields included higher oil prices, does that increase the chance of a no cut as the Fed's next move, or is the Fed's inflation watch on a separate thought than the Treasury's inflation watch? #Economics #Industry #Markets #Finance #WSJ

The circle closes itself. My bicycle accident in November was an emergency stop that had a huge impact on my professional life. One thing was very clear to me: me and my body no longer want a life like that in the (right) fast lane at 250 km/h. The first thoughts were to completely put an end to my working life and enjoy my paradise in the south of France and have a good time with my Family and friends. The two advisory board positions should keep me sufficiently busy. The reaction after my announcement was overwhelming and the general tone was that this can't be happening or "You can't do nothing and take life easy." Many offers and inquiries came my way and I thanked them all in a friendly manner because one thing was certain: I would no longer accept an operational job. But a phone call persuaded me to accept a conversation. The person, the organization and the task made me think differently. One of their arguments was that my 30 years of industry experience and track record should not go to waste. In addition, I have known these people for almost 25 years and we have always treated each other with great respect in different phases of life and positions of responsibility. Who personally pushed me to the point where I changed my mind? And peuple who know me know that that is almost impossible. Exactly 24 years ago, this person presented me with a #CEO contract to lead one of his companies and steer it out of difficult waters. He trusted a 30-year-old Belgian to take on this challenge. A few years later we looked for and found new owners. Nevertheless, he constantly kept an eye on us and visited us almost every year. Yes, it is the founder of the Bartec Group and therefore also the founder of bdtronic (formerly Bartec Dispensing Technology) Reinhold Barlian. After all these years, he entrusts me with running the industrial branch of his foundation which he set up in 2017 to endure his Long Term visions for his Familie and close ones. The task is to support the investments, to become even more successful and to optimize and expand the portfolio of investments overall. Dino Trslic , who I have known for 20 years in his previous job as Topmanager at Sparkasse, is an important team member and I am very much looking forward to working with him and the family Barlian. So you can say the circle is closing. I'll be posting more in the coming fast because the first word in our strategy is #growth and that means #investment. Here is the BMC website (yes, it will be optimized later) Barlian Management Consulting GmbH. Finally I would like the Family Barlian and all the colleagues at BMC for their trust and support we will make something great with the Foundation. https://lnkd.in/dHb_VXCv

Good read 🤓 on the latest car seat #innovations, in the pages of Automobil Industrie magazine! FORVIA gets not one, but two shout-outs: for both our Supremo and VIBE® technologies. 💺Supremo is a new #seating concept aimed at maximize space in electric vehicles, addressing the limitations posed by batteries. 💺VIBE®, on the other hand, is a cutting-edge #haptic technology that enhances the car seat experience through immersive vibrations. All in all, that's "intended to give the automotive interior additional dimensions" (as the article says, in case you don't speak 🇩🇪 German!), Danke schön, Automobil Industrie https://lnkd.in/eM8rn-gU
