Are text-based posts d*ead?   I consult (and occasionally write for) around two dozen LinkedIn accounts in DACH, the UK, and the US. I manage analytics and evaluate performance. It’s fair to say that my insights are solid.     Here’s what I’ve found:   With one exception, all accounts’ performance on text-based posts has gone down by 50–90%.   Simultaneously, those accounts with video posts have consistently reached exorbitant impressions, the highest being around 60.000 views! I can’t even remember the days when a text-based post hit the stratosphere like that.   With video content being the top performer across all social media channels, it was only ever a matter of time for LinkedIn to join ranks. There’s no way around video content any more. The irony of this being a text is not lost on me; you'll see a lot more videos from my end on here, too. What's been your experience? In recent discussions, including my mid-term analysis at the SEO Competition 2024 with Alexander Walz, we explored the effectiveness of Exact Match Domains (EMDs) in SEO. Many of my international friends have asked me to clarify my views, so here's a breakdown in English. Just because an EMD works in a specific context (like an SEO competition), it doesn’t mean it’s the holy grail of SEO. In such environments, a keyword hasn't been rigorously validated yet. Imagine this: initially, Google is relatively "dumb" about new terms. It sounds odd, but that's how it is. As more websites seed information, Google’s algorithm becomes smarter about the term. Where hard seeds are not yet present, it’s easier to establish a brand and position an EMD effectively (Best Case: the EMD becomes synonymous with the term or keyword). However, consider a different scenario where terms (like 'solar system' or 'insurance') are already heavily validated. Here, an EMD won't perform as well because you'd need an unrealistic budget to shift the vector to become the synonym for these terms. This involves seeding and link-building to change the SERPs, which, while theoretically possible, is practically implausible.

This can lead to wasted ad spend. Start with simple geolift (MMT) and hold-out tests to measure incrementality. Understand that not all channels can be tracked w/ click-based tools. 2/ Pixel Problems Incorrect, duplicative, or missing ad pixels lead to inaccurate data collection. Use a centralized feed source or vendor to streamline updates. 6/ UTM Inconsistencies Poor campaign and UTM naming standards make performance breakdowns difficult. Create a standards document and ensure that all your marketers and agencies use it religiously. 7/ Customer Data Fragmentation Lack of a single source of customer truth, with customer and 1P data spread across various systems. Start to ingest your 1P data into a data warehouse. You should own and know how to govern your customer data. 8/ KPI Blindness Limited understanding of critical metrics like New Customers, LTV, MER, Contribution Margin, CAC... Knowing which to use and when. Understanding driver trees and ensuring your team knows the key metrics for their channel. 9/ Inaccurate Forecast Failures Poorly constructed forecasts or a complete lack of forward-looking projections. Even a basic forecast, shared across the team will help. 10/ Data Silos Isolated data and poor transparency across different teams and departments. Centralize datasets, KPIs and reports where possible. Better communication and data access. The good news is that fixing these issues is 25% technical cleanup and 75% education/process improvement. Undocumented details on new customer goals in Pmax from Google Marketing Live! Google just announced a lot of new Pmax goals for new customers at Google Marketing Live. Their overall goal is to create a separate user journey for new and existing customers. For example, there will be promotions only for new customers and special prices for loyalty program customers. They are also testing internally if there could be individual assets just for new customers. It's a very interesting roadmap. I attended a roundtable in Dublin with the product lead for customer cycles and got a chance to ask a lot of detailed questions that are not documented anywhere. I wanted to share the answers, as some of them were unknown to me and others in the community. The first thing I asked was why there are so many unknowns when setting up new vs. existing customer tags in Google Ads and uploading existing customer lists, and not relying on cookies detection. The answer was that the unknowns are mostly unconsented users and iOS users. This is interesting because for iOS users, Google shifts out the Gclid that refers to both user and campaign data to GBraid and WBraid, which only refer to campaign-related data. We often see 30-40% unknowns even though best practices are followed. Another interesting answer is that the unknowns are treated in the algorithm as existing customers, which is useful to know. Google mentioned they would be testing if they could model the unknowns out. I then asked how important the new and existing customer variable in tags were for determining new and existing customers, as it is often limited in some platforms like Shopify, where the new pixel only provides data if users are logged in. The answer was very surprising! The parameter in the tag are mainly used to train the algorithm to verify that Google made the right prediction about whether it was a new customer. The determination happens already when a user enters the auction. My own interpretation of this is that the first-party existing customers list for customer match, in combination with enhanced conversion, is the most important signal for Google to determine if a customer is new or existing when they enter an auction. I asked if it would still work to have just two different conversion actions for new and existing customers and then update the value from the API if a customer is determined to be new or existing, as this provides a safer determination made by the customer's own backend data. The answer was that it would be the same, and the customer match list was the most important. So we will build into ProfitMetrics separate conversion actions now for new and existing customers in the coming month. These were very interesting and helpful answers from Google. Performance Max for marketplaces.... is so new even marketplaces don't know about 🤣 So i just asked almost every major market place in the DACH Region in Europe and turns out - no one knows about it, except Amazon support 😳 It'll probably take a while for market places to onboard this format, so a "no" does not necessarily mean the market place is not participating in it. #ppc #googleads #pmax

Based on Google Keyword Planner: ✅There were over 9 billion searches on Google for ChatGPT-related keywords in September 2024. ✅This represents a 264% increase compared to September of the previous year. ✅These statistics exclude searches in other languages but include variations and misspellings of "ChatGPT." ✅The search volume has more than doubled over the past three months. ✅There is virtually no competition for these keywords in paid ads.

HOW am I just seeing this!? HubSpot now has a default Contact object LinkedIn URL property. When did this happen? Few reasons why this is a big deal... Now you can standardize: * Data enrichment across HubSpot portals (esp with Clay) * Views with key contact data across portals (esp with Supered⚡) * Workflows that include LinkedIn and phone steps for reps (esp with OutboundSync) Here's one especially exciting use case... One of our users wants to use LinkedIn URL as their unique ID. This totally makes sense when you consider they're in the recruiting space with lots of job changes for their candidates. (A professional email address is just not going to work as well here for obvious reasons.) Now, they're going to be able to build a table using this property in Clay, and reference that table as an extension of their HubSpot database. They'll know if the contact is in HubSpot or not. If yes, run one campaign. They can use HubSpot sequences for opted-in leads. OutboundSync's dynamic block list will ensure they don't accidentally email their engaged contacts. If not, run another. Smartlead for net new contacts to sync all that data back with OutboundSync, land in the inbox, and protect their domain reputation. Either way, use that LinkedIn profile to enrich mobile numbers and work the phones. The fact that this is now a standard Contact object property in HubSpot makes all this easier.
