As part of the 32nd #FED Conference in Ulm, Germany, the 'Fachverband Elektronikdesign und -fertigung e. V. ' (professional organization for electronics design and manufacturing) presented the prestigious #PCB Design Awards for the seventh time. The award recognizes #component designers for excellent work in three different categories. Our colleague Udo Cochet (left) was honored by the jury in the category '3D/Construction Space'. PCB (Printed Circuit Board) design is a crucial step in electronics development that enables the physical realization of a circuit. This involves the arrangement of components and the connection through conductive paths in order to transmit electrical signals. A key challenge is to design the circuit in such a way that problems such as signal interference, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and thermal stress are avoided. In high-frequency circuits in particular, the conductor paths must be precisely dimensioned and positioned to minimize signal losses. Udo has designed a data acquisition unit consisting of four stacked components, which is used in our #inspectiontools. It records and stores sensor data on anomalies and defects. The data acquisition unit is integrated into a modular, #electromechanical system and, therefore, has clear mechanical specifications. This meant special requirements for the PCB design in terms of construction space. "There was a lot to consider with this component and the design repeatedly presented me with challenges. So I'm all the more pleased that we were successful in the end and even won an award," reports Udo. ◼Join us at AM Ceramics next week in Berlin◼ to gain expert insights on "Tailoring powder properties for the light based volumetric additive manufacture of Ceramics" by Prof. Dr. Jens Günster, Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung. In order to be able to manipulate #ceramic powder compacts and ceramic suspensions (slurries) in their volume with light, a minimum transparency of the materials is required. Compared to polymers and metals, ceramic materials are characterized by the fact that they have a wide #electronic band gap and therefore a wide optical window of transparency. The optical window generally ranges from less than 0.3 µm to 5 µm wavelength. Therefore, to focus light into the volume of a ceramic powder compact, its light scattering properties need to be tailored. In this study, we present the physical background and material development strategies for the application of two-photon polymerization (2PP), Xolography and selective volumetric sintering for the #additivemanufacturing of structures in the volume of ceramic slips and green compacts. The 2024 version of the ZEISS Industrial Quality Solutions metrology software Calypso comprehensively evaluates the data obtained from tactile and optical measurements from the Zeiss KMM. Users can use the product and production information to create test plans based on the new form and position library and thus, for example, enrich the CAD model of a component with form and position tolerances. The software also supports the evaluation and analysis of optical data with many functions. The new reflection correction improves the robustness of edge detection by reducing the influence of surface finishing. In addition, the mosaic function offers a new option for creating a large image from different images.
