Another reason #euro2024 should be a fun watch – 5G will be involved! Broadcaster RTL Deutschland and Deutsche Telekom are working together to use 5G services via a private 5G network to deliver “data-intensive applications” with the network running in the 3.7GHz to 3.8GHz range and offering up to 100MHz of bandwidth to the broadcaster. Interesting development for Mission Critical Networks as the connectivity for Europe's entire train network is to be upgraded to 5G (Gigabit train). The interesting thing is that partly the same solutions can also be used to create Gigabit connectivity for commercial aircrafts in the near future.

Interesting that at the current survey of Kienbaum showed that 60% of employees don´t know the company’s purpose and our quick check in the audience showed only 50%. Especially in the increasing complexity around us the purpose give orientation and helps to do the right things. The second dimension of purpose is your purpose in life. Unfortunately, this is even lower. Just 1% in the audience has a purpose of life. If you don´t know your purpose you are living the purpose of someone else. This is o.k. if it feels right to you, but you should take some time to find it and check if this is in line with your company´s purpose. Your full potential can flow if this is the case. Dear MüWü Dr. Michael Müller-Wünsch, fellow 𝐂𝐈𝐎s. First of all, I wish everyone impacted a speedy restoration of operational capabilities. I do disagree with the below post. Discussions we must have now are around 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 and 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞. Technology is ubiquitous, and 𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 is not really of relevance here. A server in Germany (pick your layer and location!) will not protect any of us from outages nor from disruptions. ⚡️Lest not forget. No tech is infallible, and it is in our power to facilitate informed decisions around 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞, 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭 and 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤 related to 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲.

We used QoO in a Vodafone trial earlier this year, plus I use it regularly to quantify performance during video conferences. I can testify that this new IETF approach directly correlates with my subjective experience of the application outcome. In this Gbps era of "enough speed", we need a better metric than the speed test, which is of diminishing value now. QoO is tailored per application/class and easily understood by customers. Only managed a half day visit, but it has been a great event by #ADL in Munich today - the 9th Executive #IOT Technology event. Great round of attendees... everyone there from AAA customers for IOT services and solutions as well as IOT providers. IOT is out there, it's real, live and happening. But it's still from a provider and customer point of view fragmented. This we have to overcome. With IOT solutions we can save people's lives, track animals 🐬(even if a 🐮 is about to give birth) and protect our forrest 🌲 . We can use it for connected cars 🚘 , augmented reality (personal assistants) or zero touch payment data exchange. Great things. Then double & triple redundancy is needed, which requires standardizing the value chain and overcome regulatory barriers in smart ways. Kudos for this to Erik Brenneis Has also been great to see 1nce with Arne Aßmann on stage. Very compelling growth story that he shared with us and the reasons behind the 1nce success (I have been close to them as BoD member). Logic: It's about software, fast scaling and easy-to-use offerings. Getting this up and running, is not an easy way, but if you really focus on customer needs and you can making it happen: Easy to order, easy to install, easy to self serve, no strings attached, focused on pure, fast, reliable and high-quality connectivity. Performance along many growth KPIs is truly impressive. 👍🤞 Would be great for the telco industry, if all the optimistic future scenarios in terms of exploding usage, global adaptation and ultimately value creation will come true. The potential is endless, but has not yet lived up to the expectations we all had. What does this mean? Well to be even more creative and push even more for it. So many use cases, so much opportunity, just means to have another go at making it happen... great things don't come easy :) 💪 So everyone that stayed on for the event in the afternoon: Hope you had even more time to network and listen to inspiring people.... and that you enjoy #Wiesn tonight to the max…. normally something I never miss, but this time I have to :)

"Going to Gemba” ("Gehe an den Ort des Geschehens") is one of the most relevant principles for relentless improvement. For me it is also became essential part of my work routines - especially back again after the pandemic. Only if we meet and connect with real people, with real discussions and in real offices, we can get the full picture. With "Magenta Office" a new possibility to work abroad in the EU is available in DT since 2023. And this year, I decided to combine a wonderful trip to Valencia with working in the Offices of VTI abroad (DT IT Spain, powered by T-Systems). A special THANK YOU to my colleagues Sergei Holmeckis and Kirill Chernin who opened some doors and connected me to people on-site! Some thoughts I'd like to share, also on our way to New Work and Magenta Offices: - 💓Magenta “has many colors”, but you can always feel when you are entering a “Magenta Office” – equipment works, easy to connect on topics, openness of colleagues, cross-functional mindset ...  - 🌍A shift of location brings a perspective - new ideas, new inspiration and energy to go on - 🦸🏻‍♀️Local roles, people who take care on-site, are needed! These colleagues act cross-functional, have their ears an eyes on the pulse, have the best interest of employees at heart. But we need to LISTEN what is needed locally! - 📝Some creativity and small ideas make a difference – be it individual naming for conference rooms, small meeting areas, local communities – and these ideas do not necessarily cost a lot of money!  - „👋Connecting People“ is important – especially in times of transformation and Change #NewWork #NewWorkatVTI #transformationstartswithme #BestTeamintheIndustry Jan Meyer

"What I Wish I Did Better As A Young Founder" 2001. In my first business venture, a Telecomms recruitment business I made a crucial mistake when setting up our new office in Frankfurt, Germany. Rather than do some basic research, and understand everything that was required before launching, I had assumed that things would work much the same as in the UK. Big mistake…⛔❌ As the official 'Geshaeftsfuehrer' I was responsible personally for absolutely everything! I got a nasty shock one day about 3 months in, when a stern gentleman from the Tax Office turned up unannounced at our offices demanding immediate payment of our wage tax bill! I called our accountants and asked them what was happening, and they explained that I needed to register personally with the tax office and then nominate them to receive the statements and allow them to make the payments on our behalf. This was one example where I had to learn that actually doing business in a different country when based there is quite different from doing business with the same clients, but based from home. The lesson is that - when doing something new do your research, be prepared, and be ready to learn quickly! A big shout out to all founders out there who attempted and failed, but tried again, and again, and again… Without failure there is no way forward in any business. Were you also once (or multiple times!) been in my shoes? Or perhaps you were the one who managed to successfully set up a company abroad and what was its outcome?
