🌟 Engage with us at the 58th Diabetes Congress! 🌟 At the 58th Diabetes Kongress, organized by the Deutsche Diabetes Gesellschaft (DDG), our team has a primary mission: to #raiseawareness for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (#MASH). MASH, often referred to as a 'silent disease', presents minimal symptoms, especially in its early stages. As the prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes continues to rise—both significant risk factors for MASH—the number of individuals affected by this chronic disease is increasing. Recognizing and diagnosing MASH can be challenging due to its non-specific symptoms, including abdominal and back pain, fatigue, and weakness. For individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and obesity, the FIB-4 index serves as a potent tool for identifying those with a high risk of liver disease. Early diagnosis is crucial, as lifestyle adjustments like diet and exercise can sometimes effectively halt the progression of MASH and, in certain instances, even reverse early-stage liver damage. Came across an insightful interview with Heinrich Moisa, CEO of Novartis Germany, on the impact of the Health Data Use Act (GDNG) and how Novartis is navigating this shift. He quotes “The 'treasure trove of data' is only a treasure if it is made accessible for research that serves the common good.”    Absolutely agree. Effective use of this data is crucial for driving meaningful innovation in patient care. It's not just about collecting data, but about transforming it into actionable innovation that truly benefits patients. Last week’s half year results announcement at Boehringer Ingelheim shed light on our strong pipeline plans and our unwavering focus on addressing unmet patient need. While we have discussed our pipeline before, in the past few months especially we have had well-rounded progress on several of our focus therapy areas, showcasing once again our commitment to innovation addressing patient need.   1. Cardiovascular, renal and metabolic (CRM) health – Our recent groundbreaking phase II trial success in adults with MASH (metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis) and liver fibrosis gives new hope to people living with connected CRM diseases. Our multi-year sponsorship of the American Heart Association's Cardiovascular-Kidney-Metabolic Health Initiative will allow us to better understand the burden of people affected by diseases in these interconnected conditions and enable better care. 2. Oncology: Phase Ia/Ib trial of a HER2-specific tyrosine kinase inhibitor in patients with HER2 aberration-positive solid tumors demonstrated promising efficacy. We are focusing our efforts in oncology with targeted investments aimed at making meaningful progress in promising trials with the ultimate goal of curing a range of cancers. 3. Mental health: “Rethinking mental health care: harnessing new approaches”, a study commissioned by Boehringer Ingelheim, uncovers the significant barriers and potential solutions to meet the growing, yet alarmingly unmet, demand for mental health services worldwide. 4. We signed nine R&D partnership agreements, significantly bolstering our human pharma portfolio across all therapeutic areas and tech platforms.   In the first half of the year alone, we initiated 28 clinical studies. We advanced our pipeline with five new phase I, II, or III initiations in cardiometabolic diseases, mental health and oncology, and achieved two additional fast track designations for programs in inflammation. All these achievements reflect our commitment to innovative patient care. By stepping up our investments in research and development, we are accelerating the delivery of breakthrough therapies that address healthcare's greatest challenges.   A big thank you to colleagues in Boehringer Ingelheim and our partners, who remain committed to a shared passion – value to patients!   The coming months and years present an excellent opportunity for us to transform lives for generations. “Understanding the patient experience is a stepping-stone to being able to change it for the better.” It’s Patient Month at Boehringer Ingelheim, during which we’re asking our colleagues to think about how they enable #PatientPoweredProgress. 🚀 At Boehringer, we believe patient centricity is everyone’s business. However, many roles in pharma do not involve direct interaction with patients. Which means some colleagues may feel somewhat removed from this call-to-action. Others may interact with patients regularly, but their understanding is limited by their vantage point. To close the gap, scores of colleagues across Boehringer are participating in impactful disease simulations, known as A Life in a Day . In each simulation, colleagues go through an immersive experience of a person living with disease for 24 hours. 🕛 I participated in the obesity simulation, and my experience was both profound and eye opening. Of course, what we do with these insights is crucial. Empathy and understanding can be springboards for action – to partner more authentically with patients to make a difference. #News: Roche (ROG.S),  on Thursday raised its full-year earnings forecast after exceeding expectations for the first half, driven by strong demand for newer drugs such as #eyemedicine #Vabysmo. The Swiss drugmaker said it expects growth in adjusted earnings in the "high single-digit range", excluding the effect of currency swings and resolution of tax disputes in 2023, up from previous estimates of "mid single-digit" percentage growth. Shares were up 2.4% in morning trading, after earlier rising as much as 4% to a one-year high. First-half adjusted operating profit gained 4% to 11.3 billion Swiss francs ($12.8 billion), the family-controlled drugmaker said on Thursday, beating analysts' consensus estimate of 10.5 billion, based on LSEG data. I am excited to be part of Amgen's#CheckLDL Testing Challenge to ensure that I stay healthy for my beloved husband Christoph Rinderknecht 🫶🏻 Why? 👉 High levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (often referred to LDL-C or "bad" cholesterol) are one of the main risk factors for heart attacks and strokes. Often, there are no symptoms, making heart disease a silent threat that can affect any of us. Though in Switzerland, we have the fifth-lowest incidence of cardiovascular diseases within the ESC Atlas of Cardiology, it is the leading cause of death, with around 20,000 people dying from it annually. Biosimilar medicines, and the competition they create, are vital for expanding access to biologics and improving healthcare sustainability.   However, many key biologics set to lose exclusivity in the next decade do not have a biosimilar candidate in the pipeline.    This failure to attract biosimilar competition, also called the ‘biosimilar void’, is a stark reminder that we must continue to address the challenges threatening biosimilar market sustainability or face damaging repercussions on our already-stretched healthcare systems.    In my opinion piece with the European Pharmaceutical Review, I dig deeper into what a biosimilar void could mean for patients and healthcare systems in Europe. I also discuss how regulators, government bodies, payors and the industry must collaborate to create a sustainable European market that promotes more biosimilar competition. Be it in the Land of the Rising Sun or the Land of Opportunities, I saw yet again that colleagues at Boehringer Ingelheim are ONE in patient focus - in every plan and initiative. Over the past few weeks, I had the opportunity to visit colleagues and teams in the US and Japan. I am personally filled with so much learning and experiences that I am grateful to the colleagues that made these visits and meetings meaningful. My colleagues and I return enriched by the vibrant discussions, solution orientation and openness to feedback and sharing.     Of all the experiences, there is one that stands out – the power of direct exchange. At the root of every success story was a discussion and a thirst to learn, understand and continuously educate ourselves. That these discussions were centered around holistic care for patients from screening, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis / care was most heartening! In the US, I saw strong collaboration between teams and deep insight into patient perspectives, as they navigate complex and ever-changing healthcare environments. In Japan, I was humbled by the level of partnership, collaboration and commitment that colleagues brought to their work every day. Both teams, in their open and direct exchange are focusing on delivering healthcare accessibility and needs-based treatment. I believe that continuing with such direct exchange with help us bring together insights from across the world on clinical trials, research and public-private partnerships, thus enabling us to harness the power of science and innovation across borders, to deliver value for patients. #Cooperation #Partnerships #PatientCentricity #DirectExchange
