How I Changed My Life with SaaS Sales

In December 2019, my life took a dramatic turn.

Up until that point, I was stuck in a rut.
I worked in sales but had no idea how to truly excel at it.
I felt trapped in the endless cycle of trading my time (and happiness) for money.

Then, everything changed at the birthday party of one of my closest friends.

I struck up a conversation with someone I’d never met before. He mentioned that he also worked in sales. I didn’t know much about his product, and honestly, I thought he was a bit arrogant.

But then he asked me a question that caught me completely off guard:

"What do you earn?"

Normally, I wouldn’t discuss money with a stranger, but I wanted to prove to him that I earned more—and that I had more expertise. After all, I’m an industrial engineer with a deep understanding of the DACH market.

When he told me he earned three times my salary, I was convinced he was exaggerating.

Then he pulled out his phone opened his bank account with his last paycheck to prove it.

That moment changed everything.

From that night on, I was determined to switch my career to SaaS sales.

He gave me a list of great companies to consider and recommended a few sales books that he said were essential reading.

The Start of My SaaS Sales Journey

I had no idea how to make the switch, but I was determined to figure it out.

I became obsessed with learning:
- I invested in courses.
- I hired mentors.
- I devoured sales books.

While doing this, I began searching for my first SaaS sales role—no matter the cost.

Eventually, this led me to my first position as an Enterprise Account Executive at GitLab.

From Struggle to Success

At GitLab, I managed accounts across industries:
- Automotive
- Retail
- Public Sector
- Finance & Insurance
- Media & Entertainment
- Aerospace & Defense

In my first quarter, I exceeded my quota by over **600%**.

For two years, I continued in this role, honing my skills and refining my approach. I then transitioned to a position within GitLab as a Strategic Enterprise Account Executive for Southern Germany.

Throughout this time, I never stopped iterating, learning, and improving.
