Another reason #euro2024 should be a fun watch – 5G will be involved! Broadcaster RTL Deutschland and Deutsche Telekom are working together to use 5G services via a private 5G network to deliver “data-intensive applications” with the network running in the 3.7GHz to 3.8GHz range and offering up to 100MHz of bandwidth to the broadcaster. Deutsche Telekom is making a strong push for 5G mmWave technology in the industrial sector. The telco has successfully trialled mmWave frequencies for industrial applications and are now actively targeting industrial customers. This is a strategic move for a few reasons: 🔘 Ultra-Fast Speeds & Low Latency: mmWave offers significantly higher speeds and lower latency compared to traditional mid-band 5G, crucial for real-time industrial applications like robotics and automation. 🔘 Enhanced Network Capacity: mmWave can handle a much larger number of devices and data streams, ideal for dense industrial environments with numerous connected machines and sensors. 🔘 Unlocking New Applications: The high bandwidth and low latency of mmWave can enable entirely new industrial applications that wouldn't be possible with traditional 5G. Deutsche Telekom's focus on mmWave for industry is a clear sign of the growing importance of this version of the 5G which has been widely adopted in the USA, Middle East and Asia but has not been adopted in Europe. Interesting development for Mission Critical Networks as the connectivity for Europe's entire train network is to be upgraded to 5G (Gigabit train). The interesting thing is that partly the same solutions can also be used to create Gigabit connectivity for commercial aircrafts in the near future.

#Robocalling #telco #Fraud #Spam #Spoofing After having enjoyed more than one year of almost zero nuisance calls on my German landline phone, since two weeks I get almost 10-15 of such calls per day. And it is not just me: Googling the phone numbers which tried calling me, I found out that many consumers are suffering getting daily calls from these numbers. As I never pick up calls from unknown numbers, I only can report what others say about the intention of the callers, here is a list of examples: - fraudulently sell new electricity supplier subscription - telling the victim to cancel a non-existing lottery contract and to pay xxx EURO or otherwise the contract will exist for ever and huge payments will then be claimed - persuading the victim to disclose bank account details The list could be continued endless. A major milestone has been reached in revolutionizing train travel with gigabit data rates thanks to 5G corridors along the tracks! 🚄 Deutsche Bahn, Ericsson, O2 Telefónica, and Vantage Towers have completed the initial phases of Germany's first 5G mobile communications corridor project, enabling seamless work, streaming, and communication at speeds up to 5 gigabits per second on trains! With EUR 6.4 million in funding from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport, the "Gigabit Innovation Track" project ensures high-performance 5G connections along railway lines. How are video content, consumption and consumers evolving, and what will the video experiences of the future look like? My colleague Sebastian Schwarz covered this topic in a recent event in Germany, and here are some of his key takeaways: 1. Streaming services are almost at full saturation, with over 90% of all US households subscribing to at least one. 2. The vast majority of video content is being consumed on mobile devices, and short-form video content received 2.5 times more engagement than long-form. 3. A must-read: The Future of European Competitiveness report by Mario Draghi to contribute to the European Commission’s work on a new plan for Europe’s sustainable prosperity and competitiveness, supporting a previous call from GSMA for the future of #telecoms. 🇪🇺 👉 Facilitating consolidation in the telecoms sector is needed to deliver higher rates of investment in connectivity. The cornerstone initiative is modifying the EU’s stance towards scale and consolidation of telecom operators to deliver a true Single Market without sacrificing consumer welfare and quality of service. To encourage consolidation, the report recommends defining telecoms markets at the EU level – as opposed to the Member State level – and increasing the weight of innovation and investment commitments in the EU’s rules for clearing mergers. 👉 Country-level ex-ante regulation should be reduced in favor of ex-post competition enforcement in cases of abuse of dominant position. It is also proposed to harmonize EU-wide spectrum licensing rules and processes and to orchestrate EU-wide auction design features to help create scale. To ensure that EU players remain at the forefront of new technological developments, it is recommended to establish an EU-level body with public-private participation to develop homogenous technical standards for the deployment of network APIs and edge computing, as was the case for roaming in the 1990s. 👉 To increase the capacity of EU operators to invest in these technologies, it is recommended to support commercial investment sharing between network owners and Very Large Online Platforms that use EU data networks to a massive extent but do not contribute to financing them. As a leading network provider across Europe, Deutsche Telekom is connecting the continent. We are continuously expanding our modern network infrastructure to bring Europe’s people closer and faster together. By 2027, we aim to reach 95% of people across our European footprint with 5G and 13.5 million households with fiber. Yet today, we are proud to present another form of overcoming boundaries and connecting Europe: the “Melody of Europe”. By translating anonymized and aggregated mobile network data from ten European countries into music, we have made our network tangible. With the help of #AI, data becomes music - a universal language that symbolizes harmony across borders and celebrates the unity in diversity across our footprint. The starting point were numbers: Our data experts identified over 109 billion anonymized network activities, like calls and messages, from ten European capitals from Berlin to Athens over one month. By assigning a musical note to each data point representing mobile network usage intensity per hour, data scientists then created a structured sound. With the help of AI, this sound eventually became a Melody reflecting the pulse of the ten European capitals. In the final step, the Melody was enriched by a generative art animation featuring countries’ landmarks in 3D, thereby completing an immersive audiovisual experience. We are delighted that our Melody is already proving itself as a source of artistic inspiration. That's what I talked about with Ulf Ewaldsson, President of Technology from T-Mobile US. The opportunities for AI are immense. That's a core belief on both sides of the Atlantic. „We love our customers“, as Ulf puts it. And thus we work hard to make AI truly human-centered. My conviction: Technology needs to adjust to people, not the other way around. I call this #humancenteredtechnology. To be at the frontiers of innovation, we launched the #TChallenge some years ago.
