Amid violent unrest in New Caledonia, the governments of Australia and New Zealand are sending planes to evacuate their nationals. Hundreds of tourists have been trapped in hotels due to the turmoil. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong confirmed that French authorities have authorized two evacuation flights, with additional flights being planned. Approximately 300 Australians are currently in New Caledonia. New Zealand's Foreign Minister Winston Peters announced that an initial flight would bring home 50 passengers with urgent needs, with more flights to follow. The French High Commission in New Caledonia reported that the airport remains closed for commercial flights, leaving around 3,200 people stranded. The unrest in New Caledonia began over changes to the constitution that would allow more migrants, primarily from France, to vote, sparking deadly riots after the National Assembly approved the changes. The riots have led to six deaths, hundreds of injuries, and widespread destruction, including looted and burnt businesses and road barricades. The indigenous Kanak people fear the new voting rules will dilute their political influence. French authorities are deploying additional military and police forces to protect public buildings and maintain order. Source: AFP, AP, Reuters So what It is surprising to me that these evacuations have taken so long, it is likely that if the country was not controlled by France then they would have happened much sooner. One trouble, particularly for NZ will be a lack of air assets, limiting the number of trips and likely leading to a reliance on Australia to evacuate some of our citizens. Regardless, this is a great example of why countries, even little old New Zealand need a defence force, because you never know where and when you will need them. Good Friday morning, Expect airport delays at BZN (BOZEMAN,MT) this weekend due to a FLY-IN. It appears as if LSZH and EHAM are both in recovery mode after last night's IT disruption. EGPH is not available due to IT issues. No night slots at EGCC from 2330-0600 local time until Oct 27th. Tropical outlook - West Pacific / Indian Ocean basin - invest area 91W, 175nm East of Manila will move slowly to the WNW over the next few days and slowly strengthen. Invest area 92W, 865nm SSE of Kadena AFB, Okinawa, Japan will move to the NNW over the next few days and could rapidly intensify. I have included a few images from the latest EURO model to show possible outcomes. Eastern Pacific- Atlantic - no concerns for the next several days. US Severe weather outlook - slight risks exist through this evening from Western KS to the Rapid City area. In the longer range, into next  week an overall stagnant upper pattern, a somewhat nondescript surface pattern lacking any appreciable cyclogenesis is forecast. Thus, severe weather chances appear low. Europe analysis - a cold front will pass through the UK on Saturday with a few showers and heavy thunderstorms, mainly over France and by Sunday it will pass through Germany, thereafter, becoming stationary over central Spain. Expect significant enroute delays over Central Europe on Sunday as a result of this thunderstorm activity. Estofex has already an alert for possible severe thunderstorms on Saturday over much of France, and the Balkans. ✈️ 𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄? 𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗢, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗣𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗢! The forerunner to ICAO was the International Commission for Air Navigation (ICAN) The Convention on International Civil Aviation, also known as the 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗴𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, in Chicago, was signed by 52 countries on 7 December 1944. Under its terms, a 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝗔𝘃𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗣𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗢) was to be established, to be replaced in turn by a permanent organization when twenty-six countries ratified the convention. 𝗣𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗢 began operating on 𝟲 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟭𝟵𝟰𝟱, replacing 𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗡. The 26th country ratified the convention on 5 March 1947 and, consequently, PICAO was disestablished on 4 April 1947 and replaced by 𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗢, which began operations the same day. In October 1947, 𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗢 became an agency of the 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 (𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗦𝗢𝗖).

October has seen large numbers of Airstrikes continue in #Iraq Over the past month, #Turkey alone has conducted over 130 airstrikes that target #PKK positions as their military operation escalates, with a spike in action following the terrorist attack in #Ankara. #Turkish air operations are daily across regions such as Metina, Mount Qandil , Hakurk, and Gara, aiming to dismantle PKK infrastructure and neutralise militants, some days have seen airstrikes in double digit numbers. The Iraqi Airforce are also conducting routine airstrikes against #ISIS factions, maintaining pressure on these remnants of the group. Combined, Turkish actions now represent over 40% of all recorded significant activities (#SIGACTS)
