Is there a difference for founders who happen to have a first name other than Thomas, Stefan or Michael? This was the leading question of last week's Ment2be event presenting some selected case studies from migrant founders in Germany. And the answer to the question is “yes”. While “Michael founders“ typically face lots of obstacles as well – as I know from personal experience 😉 - migrant founders often must tackle additional issues. Missing support from family, mentors and qualified personal network are typical pitfalls for example. The good news is that #2hearts is solving exactly these issues with its community and network of mentors. This topic came up in the very constructive and intimate DCV – Deutscher Coaching Verband e.V. meet up the other day (a huge thank you to you Saskia Sattler for making the coaching bubble a connected one 🤍) So let's talk about the "black sheep" of the coaching community – job coaching. It's often seen as the “lower” art of coaching. (Yes, I’ve heard it all – “It’s not real coaching,” “You work too much for too little,” blah blah blah.) But here’s the thing: job coaching is MAGIC. ✨ It’s not about telling people what they should do. It’s about being a talent cheerleader for people who didn’t get their shot, got overlooked, or landed in settings that dimmed their light and took out the light bulb. Job coaching is where the real stuff happens: ✅ Helping people realise that they’re more than a rejection email. ✅ Supporting folks in making bold, inward changes that ripple outward. ✅ Creating tiny revolutions one résumé at a time. Yes, it’s work AND it’s hard inner work and more and more it's about mental health as well. And yes, it’s not always glamorous, sometimes even painful on a whole new level. But it’s rewarding in ways no “fancier” coaching label can match. Because when someone starts to see oneself as the wonderful human they are, they will not just find a job where they are able to shine, they will change the system. So here’s to job coaching and Fired Up Space who are seeing the value in it as well: the misunderstood art of believing in talent that deserves to rise. If you’ve ever doubted its power, let me tell you – it’s real. And it’s worth celebrating. Disney just agreed to pay $43.3 million to settle a class-action lawsuit alleging that female employees in California were systematically paid less than their male counterparts over an eight-year period. I believe that is the kind of precedent that will help close the pay gap. But this is far from the only issue diminishing female income. Over the past months, I've been looking deeper into the issue, especially in Germany and the issues are wild: 1️⃣ Only 18% of all women in Germany invest their money 2️⃣ Those investing take a more risk-averse approach 3️⃣ Investing is still perceived as a male subject 👉 by the time women retire, if you exclude survivor's pensions, this leads to a 40% "Gender Pension Gap". But the times are changing. Younger generations are keen to close the gap and we want to help do our part across all age groups, so we are launching SheInvest.de, a new service to help women master stocks, ETFs and options in small groups.
