5 essential terms for marine aficionados: 1. A marine propulsion control system uses electronic, hydraulic, or mechanical components to regulate engine power, thrust, & steering. 2. A 2-Speed Transmission allows seamless shifting between two gear ratios to optimize engine efficiency. Low gear provides high torque for heavy loads, while high gear enhances speed and fuel economy, balancing performance across varying water conditions. 3. Torque in marine engines refers to the rotational force that propels a vessel by driving the propeller shaft. It determines the ability to overcome resistance, especially when starting or operating under load, ensuring effective thrust for steady navigation. 4. Marine acceleration is the rate at which a vessel increases speed from a stationary or slower state. It depends on engine power, torque, and hull design, crucial for maneuvers like avoiding obstacles or achieving planing speeds swiftly. 5. Cruising efficiency measures a vessel's ability to maintain a steady speed with minimal fuel consumption. It depends on hull shape, propulsion system, and load distribution, ensuring sustainable operation over long distances in marine environments.

Today, we want to share something special with you guys. Our Marketing Director Alfayaz Sunderji visited Doors of Hope Kenya to spend some time with the special needs kids under their care. It was an opportunity to connect with pure souls & exchange joy & optimism for the festive season. Wilex made sure that Al-Fayaz didn't go empty handed & contributed: 1. Biscuits 2. Juices 3. Assortment of candies 4. Lots & lots of unga (maize staple) 5. Lots of cooking oil 6. Women’s sanitary towels 7. Adult and kids' diapers 8. Lots of rice 9. Milk 10. Small Christmas envelopes for the carers, teachers & team that manage the place Their hospitality and love brought Al-Fayaz to tears and he was even asked to give a speech, much to his reluctance, but we hear that he aced it. He was served delicious mandazi (a Swahili fried bread delicacy) & tea. A special thanks to Jacqueline Shibalira for making today the highlight of 2024. As human beings, we need to enjoy our unique ability to form deep and selfless connections with each other, despite all our differences.

Did you know that a SHOCKING 597,000 people died of malaria in 2023? This estimate of deaths is based on 263 million cases, meaning that case fatality rate is not particularly high but the sheer number of cases is what causes these large numbers of deaths. Although malaria deaths in 2023 were spread across 83 countries, the World Health Organization reported that 95% of these deaths occurred in the African region. Moreover 76% of the deaths in this acutely affected region were children under 5. What starts as a fever, chills & headache can progress into severe fatigue, confusion, seizures & even difficulty breathing. Methods to prevent malaria in tropical countries include sprays & mosquito nets & now vaccination. Treatment requires DIAGNOSIS & early medication. Malaria is expensive for governments. Significant public resources in high risk countries are directed towards treating malaria, something which many countries have controlled significantly or even eradicated. Malaria also overburdens households, through out of pocket costs. Caring for a sick child reduces productivity, while the sick child themselves is deprived of education. Malaria mortality also affects the future workforce by cutting the lives of young, promising future economic participants in situ. There has certainly been progress in fighting malaria. Deaths are down by nearly a third from 864,000 in 2000, while case numbers have stagnated, but both have reduced in per capita terms. Success stories in Africa include Cabo Verde, Mauritius and Seychelles. "In 2023, 35 countries reported fewer than 1000 indigenous cases of the disease, up from just 13 countries in 2000." - WHO However, we need to do more and take a global approach. The private sector must also direct philanthropy efforts towards the disease burden.

If the phrase "beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder" means anything, it's when the Fiat Multipla was voted Best Family Car by BBC Top Gear Magazine and the Top Gear TV program for three years in a row despite looking like a melted toaster to many people 😂. Designed by Roberto Giolito Giolito must’ve had a bold vision—or maybe just a great sense of humor. The car had three rows of seats, a roof that felt like it was having an identity crisis, and headlights that seemed like they were trying to escape the car. From the day it hit the streets, the Multipla became the subject of jokes. Its awkwardly high roof and front-end gave it a look some compared to a cartoonish minivan or a “flattened UFO.” Top Gear made fun of the Fiat Multipla, calling it the "froggiest of all frog-like cars" and saying it has a face that "only a mother could love". The show also featured a press shot of the Multipla that showed a boy in a flat cap who seemed unimpressed by the car. The car’s unique look eventually turned it into a meme sensation. Its peculiar design made it a favorite for online humor. Despite its unconventional design, the Multipla went on to win multiple accolades. It may not have been a beauty queen, but it certainly proved that triumph doesn’t always come in the most traditional packages. The Fiat Multipla might’ve been a joke to some, but it was a joke with substance. It proved that sometimes, you don’t need to be “pretty” to be successful. You just need to be really good at what you do—and maybe a little bit weird. Do not limit innovation.
