Todos somos naturaleza. Cuando me miras, siento que la naturaleza me está mirando. Cuando te miro, te reconozco como sagrado. Esa es una frase que es común escuchar, pero que tal vez no entendemos a profundidad. Cuando hablamos de ser naturaleza, estamos hablando de ritmos, dinámicas, patrones que están enraizados en la naturaleza. Por lo general la mayoría de nosotros estamos más acostumbrados a los ritmos, patrones, y dinámicas de la civilización. Y después nos quejamos de que nuestro cuerpo grita. "#Burnout and #MentalHealth issues are not your fault. They are the consequence of societal failure to ever train us in maintaining our mental health, and in fact, incentivizing ways of living which actively harm our mental health." This insight which a coachee of mine and I came to during a session yesterday stayed with me, and I felt it would be useful for many more people who blame themselves, feel guilt, shame or try to hide the fact that they are struggling with their mental health. When we collectively realized that oral hygiene plays a huge role in overall health, a societal (and policy) incentivizing of tooth brushing became the norm. When we collectively realized that movement and exercise were important for overall well-being (and yes, productivity of humans in our altruistic capitalist system), the societal norms of doing sports as much as possible emerged. It is time that the very clear evidence of the importance of certain practices to build mental health hygiene - from therapeutic and psychological check ins and support from an early age, to learning emotional intelligence and training mindfulness, to ensuring the habit of monitoring our energy levels and how we use our attention, to gaining a deeper understanding of our nervous system, and many other things - be the basis for a societal (and policy) shift. Thankfully many are already working on this from Masawa's Huria Ogbamichael and Joshua Haynes or Christa Cocciole or Wellspent's Christina Roitzheim... and us at Purpose+Motion Alex Rupp and Pablo Escorcia, bien sûre! Yet, much more needed here! What do you think could shift this?

“Right now, we are in the “Empire Strikes Back” part of this sustainability movement. But I truly believe THE REBELS WILL WIN!" said Ecosia founder and CEO Christian Kroll at the #EntrepreneurshipSummit a few weeks ago. And it really struck a chord with me. Partly because I love Star Wars. But also because over the last months, at least here in #Germany, there has been such a feeling of depression, of disillusionment, of inevitable collapse of all our efforts and successes over the past decade, that I can almost see #DarthVader chuckling and preparing the cryogenic freezer for all the Last Generation activists he's captured. With the turning back on sustainability goals of so many companies, the electoral victories/ successes of right wing parties determined to turn back "green policies" (including possibly Trump next week), the complete incompetence and hypocrisy of the current (GREEN!! and SOCIALIST!!) German government both on sustainability but also on how it deals with foreign policy and internal protests, the fact that so many "sustainable" companies are crashing and burning... it really feels like the Empire's storm troopers are unstoppable. BUT! in speaking with Elisa Naranjo, co-founder of zweihorn ENERGY, we realized that what her and co-founders Waldemar Zeiler and Kian Pariwar have been trying to revitalize in the German setting: the Energy Transition (#EnergieWende), is exactly what is needed in the sustainability/ green/ regenerative movement today. We need an Energy Transition towards believing we can create economies, societies and world which lives within our ecological and social boundaries. That we can transform the systems we have, or regenerate those which collapse, to achieve this. That we can do all of this with lightness, fun, joy and staying physically and mentally healthy; all the while fully feeling the fear, desperation, anger, rage, overwhelm and confusion which is inevitable with such transformation. We need to believe that together with all other species on this planet (including the Wookies and Ewoks), we can take down the Empire which has been plundering this planet and our own human resources, destroy the death star, and live to thrive together (until the next film, which I can hardly remember the plot of!) Why is it so hard to run a regenerative business when it's literally the most "natural" thing to do? This time, I tackle this questions from the perspective of people working in the healing arts sector. Yoga teachers, conscious dance practitioners, acupuncturists, people working with ancient wisdom, healers and many others in similar occupations, are conscious of the need to change the system and are willing to play their role in this transition, but the impact that they have is normally hindered by their own limitations.
