🚀 𝗔 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗗𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝗱-𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱-𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗽 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 📢 The 𝗣𝗬𝗥𝗢-𝗟𝗣𝗕𝗙 project has achieved a major breakthrough! In collaboration with the project partners Sensortherm GmbH, SCANLAB GmbH and Autodesk, a highly dynamic inline closed-loop control with temperature feedback in Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Metals (PBF-LB/M) was developed. For this purpose, Sensortherm developed a high-speed two-color pyrometer that operates at an impressive measuring frequency of 50 kHz and is coaxially integrated into the beam path of a SCANLAB 3D scan system. ⚙️ The entire PBF-LB/M research system for process monitoring, beam shaping, AI and temperature closed-loop control is controlled by a custom software environment based on the 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗸 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸. For process monitoring SCANLAB's 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 is used to record position-assigned measurement data. The result? A temperature-controlled process that significantly 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝘀 local overheating in thermally isolated geometries or sharp-edged contours with short scan vectors, greatly 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 part 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. ✔️ A big thank you to all project partners, especially Helmut Kriz, Daniel Reitemeyer and Alexander Oster for the excellent cooperation and the successful project result! We would also like to thank the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz for funding in the ZIM programme. 🙏 Furthermore, we thank OPTOPRIM Germany GmbH and nLIGHT, Inc. for supplying the AFX-1000 laser system for beam shaping, and IDS Imaging Development Systems GmbH for sponsoring camera systems for process monitoring. 🤩 #additivemanufacturing #AM #3DPrinting #LPBF #laserpowderbedfusion #Metal3DPrinting #innovation #ClosedLoop #TemperatureControl #technology #research #project

🚀 Advancing Productivity in PBF-LB/P with Big Spot Exposure 🌐 ⚡ Up to 1.5x faster processes without compromising density or quality 🔬 In our Plastics AM lab, we're exploring how defocused laser beams can significantly enhance productivity for PBF-LB/P. A few months ago, we already shared that we can increase productivity by a factor of 4 in the exposure step while maintaining or even improving part density. In our research, we are using a 120 W laser from Iradion Laser and a dynamic focusing unit from SCANLAB GmbH to achieve consistent laser intensity while defocusing the laser beam up to a size of 1000 µm. After optimizing our scan strategy, we printed our first demo parts last week. This shows that faster laser exposure translates into a significant process time reduction, especially for large build areas or large-volume components. These advancements pave the way for scalable, cost-effective manufacturing of high-quality PBF-LB/P parts. Are you interested? We are currently looking for industrial use-case partners 📬 We thank Christian Schröter and Angelina Ehrenberg from OPTOPRIM Germany GmbH, Alexander Jäckl from Iradion Laser, and Johannes Rahn and Daniel Reitemeyer from SCANLAB GmbH for supporting this research. 🙌 Special Thanks also to my colleagues Katrin Wudy, Benedikt Burchard, and Jonas Grünewald. Stay tuned for our upcoming publications! #AdditiveManufacturing #3DPrinting #AM #PBF #Productivity
