🤔 What does Berlin’s deep tech scene really have to offer? 🔍 This is what we aim to discover in the coming months as we explore Berlin’s most exciting spots in deep tech. Why? To uncover the innovations shaping the city’s future—and connect startups with the resources they need to thrive. We started last Friday when students from Batch 7 of the Tech Talent Program, along with our members, set off on a very special tour to explore Fraunhofer IZM’s Start A Factory, and check in with friends at FaSTTUBe - Formula Student Team TU Berlin. As part of the program’s practice-oriented curriculum, the day focused on uncovering the value of collaboration between research and entrepreneurship. Watch the recap below. ⬇️ ❓ We were guided by one key question: How can startups leverage the infrastructure and expertise of one of Germany’s top research institutes to launch faster and more cost-effectively? 👀 Here’s what we discovered: 🔹 Prototyping Made Simple: Start A Factory offers specialized labs for electronic hardware prototyping. Whether you’re building from scratch, refining an existing device, or scaling fast, they’ve got you covered. 🔹 Ready for Scale: They provide guidance for ramping up to mass production, supporting everything from small to large-scale PCB manufacturing. 🔹 Affordable Access: With a low entry threshold, Start A Factory is a cost-effective partner for startups, backed by Fraunhofer IZM’s cutting-edge technology. Pro tip: Reach out to Ulf Oestermann or Alexandra Rydz directly—no lengthy processes, no need to overthink. Just start. 🔹 Collaborative Approach: Their team works as equal partners with startups, bridging the gap between idea and execution through open and effective communication. 🔗 At MotionLab.Berlin, we believe the journey begins with a strong foundation. Our E-Lab serves as a launchpad for hardware innovators, but innovation doesn’t stop there. We’re committed to connecting you with players like Start A Factory where you can scale quickly, access world-class infrastructure, and collaborate with leading experts. Berlin’s deep tech scene is buzzing—and this is just the beginning. Stay tuned as we continue to explore the groundbreaking innovation happening in our city. 🚀 What’s your favorite deep tech spot in Berlin? Comment below or DM us—we’d love to connect! #DeepTech #ClimateTech #innovation #ecosystem #startup #Berlin 👋 SPAIA: Tom Cox & Collette Wasielewski 📽️ Videography: Eric Obriegat

  • 🌟 ”What makes MotionLab.Berlin special is the sense of belonging. It might sound cliché, but it’s like a big WG—everyone feels at home, does their best, and that energy just spreads,” says Melinda Varga, our Community Manager. 💓 We would like to say a heart-felt thank you to our incredible community, for an exciting, crazy, creative, whirlwind of a year. You are the ones who bring life to MotionLab.Berlin and give purpose to everything we do here. Last night, we hosted a community dinner with a festive twist, bringing everyone together to enjoy good food, and reflect on the year gone by. There was also a special milestone for us to toast to—on December 14, we celebrated 7 years since MotionLab.Berlin was founded! The evening captured this spirit of celebration and gratitude perfectly. From first-time conversations to members bringing their families, and even ex-members coming back to join us, the warmth was unmistakable. Like any WG, we have our challenges, but everyone is here because they genuinely enjoy being part of something bigger. The night was full of moments that will stick with us—live guitar music, Indian dishes, Danish desserts, cozy decorations, and plenty of fun. Our community is made up of unique individuals, each with their own place, and together we create something special, like pieces of a Lego structure coming together. 🥂 Here’s to many more moments like these! #startup #innovation #community #CommunityBuilding #HolidaySeason

  • 🌟It’s not always the big networking events that create the best connections—sometimes, small, intimate gatherings with a select group of people are the perfect way to build meaningful relationships. Our recent Deep Tech Christmas Party for Berlin’s vibrant Deep Tech network was a perfect example of this. We kicked off the holiday season in great company and celebrated Berlin’s exciting new role as Germany’s Deep Tech Hub. 2024 has been a pivotal year for collaboration between business, politics, and innovative startups. Events like the Deep Tech Award and programs like the MotionLab.Berlin Hardtech Innovation Accelerator have driven impactful advancements. Looking ahead, 2025 is set to be even more groundbreaking. As our Head of Corporate Partnerships, René Giese, shared: 🗣️“2025 will be a year full of exciting activities and synergies. • 🔥 Last night, we hosted the very first edition of our "Startup Fireside Chats" series at MotionLab.Berlin. The intimate, cozy atmosphere provided the perfect setting to get to know our guest, Ingo Boegemann. Ingo is the Co-Founder and CEO of Berlin-based truemetrics (YC S23), a company advancing urban transportation and logistics with cutting-edge algorithms for motion and position data. Ingo was based at MotionLab.Berlin as a Professional Member in the time leading up to the founding of truemetrics in 2021. In 2023, he was selected to participate in the highly regarded Y Combinator accelerator program. It was also fantastic to have Daniel Flynn, Co-Founder of Bearcover and Lead Mentor at the Hardtech Innovation Accelerator program, moderating the chat and sharing additional insights. 🙏 💡 Key takeaways from the chat: 1️⃣ The power of relentless sales outreach – It’s all about getting in front of the decision-maker. Reach out to as many relevant people within a company as possible until you connect with the right person. Until you have a definite “yes” or “no,” the customer cannot be qualified or disqualified. 2️⃣ The importance of customer qualification – Interest isn’t real until someone pays for your product or service. Once you have qualified customers, you know you’re on the right track. 3️⃣ Accepting that what you sell can’t always be polished or perfect – Often, you’re selling a product that’s constantly breaking and being fixed. Build as you go, working closely with customers to truly understand their pain points and co-create solutions. 4️⃣ The role of the CEO as a chief firefighter – From investor communications to troubleshooting code, to providing emotional support for the team, it’s about staying laser-focused on what truly matters. During the lively Q&A, we also discussed maintaining motivation, cultivating champions within companies, and avoiding distractions from competitors. We’d like to say a big thank you to Ingo for joining us, sharing his startup journey, and providing valuable insights into the challenges and breakthroughs of building a tech startup. Events like these remind us why MotionLab.Berlin exists: to empower and connect innovators on their journey toward building a sustainable, net-zero future. 🌍 💬 Missed this one? Don’t worry – this is just the beginning! Our next "Startup Fireside Chat" is coming in January, and we’re already excited to continue the conversation. Stay tuned for updates! #DeepTech #InnovationHub #StartupInsights #MotionLabBerlin #Startup #YCombinator #innovation #Berlin #hardtech

👋 Our team is growing—please welcome Kristina, our new Event Manager! 🌏 Originally from the peaceful countryside of southern Denmark, Kristina—or Kris, as we also call her—has traveled across the globe, with stops in Australia, Uganda, and Germany. After exploring academia in Bremen, she found her true home in Berlin, thriving in roles that involve practical work and connecting with people. 🔹 Kris first got to know MotionLab.Berlin in May when she helped organize our biggest event of the year, Hardtech Innovation Demo Day. She quickly saw what makes MotionLab.Berlin special: a blend of can-do attitude, community spirit, kindness, and professionalism. “Seeing all these qualities coexist is what makes this place unique,” she says. 🔹 As Event Manager, Kris plans and executes both internal and external events. She enjoys the balance of planning and hands-on tasks, especially seeing ideas come to life. “Events are about vision and making it happen,” she explains. 🔹 The past few weeks have been busy for Kris, with events planned long before she joined. Despite the challenge, she says the support from the team and community has been a highlight. “No matter how busy it gets, someone’s always ready to lend a hand or crack a joke,” she reflects. 🛋️ At MotionLab.Berlin, Kris’s favorite spot is the sofa in front of the Prusa Hub—perfect for working, chatting, and getting cuddles from our furry friends (like the one on the photo below 🐶). Outside of work, she enjoys sunsets, sunrises, and starry skies from her balcony in Neukölln. 👀 In the coming months, Kris is especially looking forward to the #Databank launch event, a project our team has been diligently preparing behind the scenes. And when she’s not busy with events, Kris has a hidden talent: knitting. 🎉 Please join us in welcoming Kristina to the team! #team #starup #welcome #eventmanagement #hostyourevent #Berlin

💡 "One accurate measurement is worth a thousand expert opinions." 🌱 This phrase, once said by computing pioneer Grace Hopper, lies at the core of Orbisens®, our newest ecosystem partner, and the work they do. When Nicolas Jalby met his future co-founder, Dr. Jens Lamping, at the Meteorological Technology World Expo in 2022, they quickly connected over a shared belief: cities need better climate data to combat climate change. Traditional environmental monitoring systems were bulky, expensive, and unsuited to the needs of modern cities. Determined to change this, Orbisens® developed modular, scalable hardware capable of tracking air quality, heat islands, pollution, and more. With Jonas Lehmke as CTO—a pioneer in urban sensor networks—their technology reached new heights. Today, Orbisens® isn’t just collecting data—they’re empowering cities to act, innovate, and thrive in the face of climate change. The technology they developed is characterized by: 🔹 Low-maintenance, streamlined systems. 🔹 Real-time, actionable data for smarter decisions. 🔹 Affordable, scalable solutions for urban environments. A couple of months ago, the Orbisens® team joined us at one of our NetworkinMotion breakfasts to share their journey and demonstrate their modular hardware technology for urban environments to the community. 💬 “Berlin is known for IT and digital tech, but MotionLab.Berlin leads in hardtech and climate innovation. Here, we’ve found a community that shares our passion for hardtech and a sustainable future,” shared Nicolas Jalby, CEO and Co-Founder of Orbisens®. 🎉 We’re excited to welcome Orbisens® to the ecosystem! Let’s extend them a warm welcome as they help cities take meaningful steps toward a more sustainable future. #EnvironmentalMonitoring #ClimateAction #SmartCities #ecosystem
