Make for an inclusive world through Para sport
Info
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is the global governing body of the Paralympic Movement. Its primary responsibilities are to support our 200 plus members, develop Para sport and advocate social inclusion, ensure the successful delivery and organisation of the Paralympic Games and act as the international federation for 5 Para sports. Founded on 22 September 1989 as a non-profit organisation, the IPC is an athlete-centred organisation composed of an elected Governing Board, a management team and various Standing Committees and Councils. Since 1999 we have been headquartered in Bonn, Germany. The IPC seeks to make for an inclusive world through sport by developing sports opportunities for all people with disabilities from the beginner to elite level. It currently employs over 130 people from more than 40 countries. Thanks to the unique combination of ever-improving athletic performance and increasing global awareness, the Paralympic Games are today firmly established as the world’s number one sport event for driving social inclusion. The event boasts a strong track record for transforming attitudes, cities, countries, and the lives of millions of people around the world.

🧪 IPC undertook its most comprehensive anti-doping programme “Our risk-based approach to testing helped ensure a more level playing field for athletes competing in Paris," IPC’s Head of Anti-Doping Jude Ellis said. During the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games period, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) collected 2,677 samples (urine and blood) from 1,988 doping control tests - 25 per cent more than Tokyo 2020. The Future OCOG Activities & Learning (FOAL) programme, led by the International Paralympic Committee, had a busy summer in Paris. FOAL is a programme of continuous learning and engagement with Future OCOGs (Organising Committees for the Olympic and Paralympic Games) throughout the OCOG lifecycle, designed to help fill in the gaps for the successful planning and delivery, ensuring Paralympic knowledge is embedded throughout the OCOG. With 54 sessions held over the course of 17 days, 220 individuals from 5 Future Organising Committees discussed the delivery of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. During the Paris 2024 Games, the programme included various activities and diverse opportunities for the Future OCOGs to interact with the Host OCOG, the IPC and other stakeholders. After Paris, FOAL Finales, a debrief of the lessons learned in Paris, were held in Milan, Los Angeles (photo) and Brisbane, to contextualise the learnings for each OCOG and discuss how to capitalise on opportunities arising from hosting the Paralympics.
