This week we are exploring the three main outcomes of the UP-TO-ME project and how they will positively impact the global environment and society. The 2nd outcome focuses on the reduction of emissions caused by Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV) The technology not only captures and utilises the CO2 from biogas for methanol production, but it also  simultaneously upgrades the biogas to biomethane. This biomethane can be used as a substitute for natural gas and as a fuel for HGV’s. By providing clean fuel for these vehicles, the technology will reduce their overall emissions into the environment. This clean fuel will be used for marine vessels within the maritime industry across the globe. Great roadshow last week in #Berlin! Founders from 13 amazing tech #startups are working hard throughout the holiday season, exploring opportunities in #China: a 1.3-billion-user new market 🚀 💡Some lessons learnt: 1. The EU has set ambitious greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets, with the aim of reaching carbon net-zero by 2050. Carbon net-zero aims to reduce GHG emissions to nearly zero. Meeting this target relies, in part, on the availability of reliable and cost-effective technologies.  Therefore UP-TO-ME aims to contribute to this target using decentralised CO2 point sources to produce renewable fuels. We are just driving back from holiday and on the way visited Etteliot and Alexandre EVRARD for a few days! I am really grateful to our journey and thankful to the phone call I had with Alex around 4 years ago. Alex and me had the intial idea much earlier (thanks Falk Harnisch and Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) for taking us). Unfortunately we had to make it years later as our lives took other directions but then joint again and pivoted to Etteliot first product - Etteliot S - which is able to treat and remove urine. Finding the right technology and perfect use case for treating urine was not trivial as a lot of solutions are in the market but we wanted to make no compromise and do not make waste and no plastic with a super efficient mechanism. Most important using the technology must be as easy as at home. We opened our mind and could find the right technology after a year of intense scouting and building prototypes on low budget. The last years Alex could really bootstrap Etteliot, build a team with Ella Daum, Valentin, Dorian Leblond Juliette Tatesausse Julie, Enora, Kazeem and bring the product to market and most important find great customer interest so that we now have made a lot of people happy and help keeping our environment clean. In April we could build trust with investors in Etteliot! Thanks Vincent GUILLOIS, Killian du Réau Bamboo Jocelyn Douillard ! It is great to see that we can really solve a problem for our customers, to forget about their urine at places without connections to the wastewater plants. At the picture you can see Alex preparing an Etteliot S for our garden. Although we saw firefly’s at the vacation house where we could relax with our friends at one of the most special places in western Brittany! Recently the Spanish Association of Water Supply and Sanitation (AEAS) held the XXXVII edition of their congress in Castellon, and Global Omnium attended and presented the UP-TO-ME project. This event was a national event targeting members of the scientific community, industry relevant organisations and public administrations. Global Omnium showcased the project at their booth with a video presentation. This was a great event allowing us to network and present the project to industry experts. The UP-TO-ME project is not only producing a clean fuel for marine vessels but also for Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV) HGVs are responsible for more than 25% of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from road transport in the EU, and they account for over 6% of the total EU GHG emissions. By producing a clean renewable fuel for these vehicles, the UP-TO-ME project is hugely contributing to the journey to a net-zero EU economy.
