IBCS is an initiative of the FP&A and Business Intelligence community. We want to create and establish a visual language for designing charts and tables. Like Wikipedia, this IBCS notation is free available under the Creative Commons CC-BY SA license. Its development is governed by the not-for-profit IBCS Association. You are welcome to join this association with a free membership.
The IBCS project was initiated by the commercial IBCS Institute. Today it hosts the IBCS project and provides corresponding services and material. These include the delivery of seminars and training courses, the IBCS certification of consultants, analysts, and software packages, as well as the provision of educational material in a web-shop.

Good news for managers who want to better understand reports and dashboards: Charts and tables from #IBCS Certified Software vendors look almost the same. Here is why:
🎉 Celebrating 120 years of ACCA! 🎉
To mark this milestone, ACCA partner IBCS – International Business Communication Standards has a special gift for all ACCA members: the "Solid Outlined Hatched" video course! 🎁
I've just started this program, and it's fascinating! The author compares business reports to musical notes, highlighting how musicians have used the same patterns for centuries, making them instantly recognizable at lightning speed. Why not apply the same principle to business reports? 🎶🎼📊📉

I’m delighted to share that I’ve obtained a new certification: IBCS® Certified Analyst from IBCS – International Business Communication Standards!
Back in 2011, I read Edward Tufte’s classic tetralogy over the New Year holiday. His principles on achieving graphical excellence in the visual display of quantitative information fundamentally reshaped my perspective. Since then, I’ve endeavoured to apply these ideas in my day-to-day work, using data to communicate more effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. Nevertheless, I often felt the need for a more structured, systematic approach.
The International Business Communication Standards (IBCS) provide exactly that—a truly comprehensive, practical, and structured framework for creating clear, consistent, and meaningful data communications. Having achieved my IBCS® Certified Analyst qualification, I’m now keen to integrate these principles into my practice and share them with my colleagues in the coming year.
Thanks to Jürgen Faisst, Edyta Szarska, the whole IBCS team and all my cohorts on this journey!
