What a month of flood forecasting innovation in the Netherlands! As we enter the festive December season, I'm looking back on a remarkable November of knowledge exchange and collaboration! I'm grateful to have been part of two events that showcased advances in flood forecasting technology. First, at the Delft-FEWS User Days 2024 at Deltares, I had the pleasure of presenting alongside my colleague Hendrik Burkamp from Hydrotec Ingenieurgesellschaft für Wasser und Umwelt mbH on "Enabling Flash Flood Forecasting: FloodWaive's AI-Powered 2D Real-Time System within Delft-FEWS." Together with our co-authors Oliver Buchholz, Alpaslan Yörük from Hydrotec, and my compantion and co-founder Adrian Holt, we explored the promising integration of our FloodWaive AI models into #DelftFEWS. At the 7th Dutch-German workshop, I presented our research on our foundation model #DeepWaive, a generalized deep learning model for flood forecasting. Special thanks to Daniel Bachmann and Ulrich Förster for organizing this excellent event, and to all participants for the engaging discussions. This was followed by a productive JCAR ATRACE project workshop with Kymo Slager and Jan Verkade, where we explored opportunities for joint early warning systems. It was particularly inspiring to see so many partners from the #FlashFloodBreaker project coming together, united in our mission to improve flood risk management. These collaborations between AI innovation and established forecasting systems represent a significant step forward in flood risk management. The rich discussions about these technologies and their real-world implementation highlighted the immense potential ahead. Thank you to all organizers, participants, and colleagues who made these events such a success. Looking forward to 2025 - a year of more important collaborations within this common mission and breakthrough innovations in flood forecasting. Thank you Jens for the nice picture! #DeepWaive #AI #FloodForecasting #FlashFloodBreaker #DutchGermanCollaboration #DelftFEWS #JCAR
