Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations are no longer a “nice-to-have”—they’re essential for the long-term success of startups. And yet, too often, ESG remains absent from boardroom agendas, especially in early-stage companies. That’s why today, we’re introducing a simple yet impactful ESG board slide template to help founders and boards bring this critical topic into regular discussions. If you’d like to receive the template, simply DM us or comment “ESG Board Template.” This template isn’t just a checkbox — it’s a tool to track progress, define priorities, and drive actionable conversations about the material ESG issues your company faces. By embedding ESG into board meetings early on, startups can mitigate future risks, attract like-minded investors, and build resilience for growth. The full article by Yair Reem and Tess Dury on why ESG is important for early stage boards and a breakdown of the key features of the template is available here 👉 https://lnkd.in/e2B5f8F5 #VentureCapital #ESG #ClimateTech

"Dry Powder Spotlight" #3: €204M Extantia Flagship Today’s spotlight is a special one. Huge congratulations to Joern-Carlos Kuntze and the Extantia team for closing an impressive €204M fund to back climate pioneers! Joern (alongside Alexander and Jan), was my introduction to VC, and I learned a lot from them during my first VC job and beyond. I also had the pleasure of sharing office with Yair Reem and Sebastian Heitmann at Maschinenraum back in 2020 and can highly recommend working with them! Extantia's oversubscribed fund increases Extantia's support for founders building cheaper, better and greener solutions. As former entrepreneurs and operators who have built and exited companies, the Extantia team focuses on providing their founders with hands-on support in commercialization, organizational growth, and fundraising. Thank you, Joern-Carlos and Fernanda, for the great conversation! #Climatetech #VentureCapital #Fundraising #Extantia #StartupGrowth #Investorspotlight #Mergersandacquisitions

"With some of the hype gone out of the market, more mediocre propositions are no longer attracting the interest they did previously," says Yair Reem in an interview with PwC for their latest State of Climate Tech report. "Truly exceptional companies, with clear and compelling value propositions that extend beyond simply being green, are still securing funding, but there is a lack of money generally." The report, "Seeking an Edge as Deal-Making Slows," offers important insights on the state of climate tech investment: 👉 Market Contraction: Capital flows and transaction volumes continue to decline, falling below pre-2019 levels. 👉 AI-Related Climate Tech: This segment is seeing notable growth, with its market share almost doubling to 14.6%. 👉 Focus on Climate Adaptation: 28% of climate tech deals now focus on adaptation and resilience. 👉 Corporate Venture Capital: These funds are playing a growing role in mid- and late-stage investments. November ended on a high note in Helsinki, with bold ideas and transformative climate discussions that continue to resonate into December and the new year. At the Slush Climate Summit, co-hosted with Lightrock and Transition, we explored how we can truly excel in a world where being merely green is no longer enough. Together, we unpacked the green growth playbook with an incredible line-up of speakers and panellists: Saif (Altruistiq), Ari (Transition), Torben (Extantia), Kimberly (GenZero), Dominic (Monumo ), and Christopher (Lightrock), Sebastian (Extantia), Martin Roscheisen (Diamond Foundry), David (Transition), Annu (The Upright Project), and Mimi (Sifted). A massive thank you to the behind-the-scenes teams: Elin, Ella, Konrad, Kaisu, Alasdair, Emily, Sarah Knox, Gabbi, Rachel, and Fernanda. We also co-hosted Super Climate Helsinki, which brought together over 130 attendees. Despite the slushy weather outside, the atmosphere inside was full of warmth and meaningful connections. Thanks Rafael and Oona for your incredible work in Helsinki! #ClimateTech #Slush2024 #SuperClimate

What do successful founders and Ironman athletes have in common? For me, the journey to completing an Ironman mirrors the journey founders take to build something transformative in the climate space. Both demand vision, passion, resilience, and an unshakeable commitment to reach the finish line, no matter the obstacles or setbacks. I’ve noticed common traits emerge in founders who build, scale, and ultimately exit great companies, as well as in endurance athletes. I’ve distilled these into the Power 12! Learn these essential qualities that investors and seasoned entrepreneurs view as the backbone of impactful, sustainable companies: 🌟 Visionary Thinking - Envision success beyond current limits. 🔥 Passion to Succeed - The spark driving every great achievement. Hats off to Tim who truly personifies this quality. 📅 Daily Grind - Commit to consistency and discipline. Felix, you bring this trait to life beautifully! 🧭 Strategic Foresight - Set a roadmap for every milestone. Shoutout to Jan for setting the bar with this trait. 🤝 Build a Coalition - Rally key allies for a collective journey. 💪 Inner Confidence - Trust your judgment amidst noise. ⚡ Resilience Under Pressure - Know your “why” and hold onto it. Huge kudos to Igor for embodying this trait so well. 🔄 Adaptability - Stay agile in the face of change. 💥 Unwavering Conviction - Inspire confidence in yourself and others. Grateful for Malte’s stellar example of this trait in action! 🎉 Positive Mindset - Celebrate progress through each milestone. Chris, you’re a true example of this quality in action. 🔧 Versatility - Embrace all roles with a growth mindset. 🚀 Lifelong Drive - Pursue improvement beyond one finish line. Which traits have helped you reach your finish lines?
