As the second-largest contributor to global warming, tackling methane emissions is essential to achieving the EU's 2050 climate neutrality goals. The EU Methane Regulation (EMR) sets ambitious standards to curb methane leaks and emissions both within the EU and across global fossil fuel supply chains. At the most recent #EUKIAcademy web seminar, experts highlighted the transformative impact of the EMR. Here’s what stood out: 🔍 Monitoring Innovations Satellite technologies like MethaneSAT and Tanager-1 promise unprecedented transparency, enabling rapid detection of methane emissions. This could revolutionise how compliance is monitored and methane leaks are repaired. 🌍 Global Supply Chain Focus With most methane emissions occurring outside the EU, the regulation requires importers to meet stringent EU-equivalent standards by 2027. This creates opportunities for global harmonisation of methane monitoring. 💡 Coal Mine Methane - An Untapped Potential Coal mine emissions are a major contributor to global methane output, yet they remain underutilised. Germany's example of repurposing methane from abandoned coal mines demonstrates what can be achieved with the right policies and technologies. 📘 Read our report to understand how the EU Methane Regulation can reshape climate action 👉 https://lnkd.in/dz3fqG2W Mihai Stoica 2Celsius Raul Cazan Elisabeth Lemaitre  Brandon Locke Sabina Assan #EUKI #Methane #EUMethaneRegulation #ClimateAction #Webseminar #GreenTransition
