Read on for Juha’s full interview here.👇 1. What is your North Star 🌟 with Quanscient? Our company vision is clear: to make physical prototyping entirely digital. But on a personal level, my North Star is to build a team and organization where people feel motivated, appreciated, and trusted to build a simulation platform that will have a massive impact on the engineering of complex hardware products. 2. What’s a phrase, belief, or saying 💬 you live by that has shaped a pivotal moment in your life? This is a tough one to translate, but if I had to, it would be: "It might not go exactly as planned, but it’ll work out somehow." As a founder, you have to embrace that mindset. It’s inspired by the works of Kalle Päätalo, a Finnish author known for his autobiographical novels about overcoming hardships. My brother and my late father introduced me to Päätalo's work, and it’s stuck with me ever since. It’s that idea of persistence, even when things seem uncertain. 3. What’s a book 📚 that has stayed with you, changed your perspective, or touched you in a way you didn’t expect? Reinventing Organizations by Frederic Laloux. It dismantles the ‘hero CEO’ myth, showing how empowering teams and fostering shared leadership can lead to sustainable growth. Laloux shows that it's not about the CEO doing everything, but about creating a structure that thrives on shared responsibility. 4. What purchase of €100 or less 💶 has most positively impacted your life in the last 6 months? It's technically a bit more expensive, but the Superhuman email client. Email is such a big part of my day-to-day life, having something that is delightful to use and makes me feel more efficient every day makes a huge difference. 5. What is the one thing you personally commit to do to turn Europe into one of the leading Deep Tech ecosystems of the world? 🦾 Keeping Quanscient’s IPR and headquarters in Europe. However, we can’t do it alone, we need strong public sector support and improvements in the late-stage funding environment to keep Europe competitive. At 40, with two young daughters and a secure, well-paid corporate job, it wasn’t exactly a no-brainer. But still, together with his co-founder Amir H. Ghadimi, they took the leap. It all started at CSEM, Amir and Frédéric made a breakthrough with thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) chips. These chips could revolutionize data centers, a sector desperate for solutions to its growing power consumption and connectivity bottlenecks, especially in the age of AI. However the development was stuck in an R&D lab. Customers from all over the world were asking for a million units, and the lab could only handle prototypes. 🎯 A bold decision was made right there: say goodbye to their corporate careers and hello to volume manufacturing these game-changing chips. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲. Today, Lightium is the first to manufacture TFLN-based chips at an industrial scale.
