🎉 BSides Dresden 2023: A Success in Numbers! 📊 We're thrilled to share the highlights of this year's BSides Dresden: • 60 passionate cybersecurity enthusiasts in attendance • 9 expert speakers across 8 engaging slots • 6 generous partnering companies supporting our mission • 1 CTF with an award • 1 Dinner for guests and speakers before the day of the event • 1 Afterevent networking opportunity • 1 Dresden+ city tour But we're not stopping here! 🚀 We're already gearing up for BSides Dresden 2025, and it's going to be bigger and better: • Our organizing team is meeting in January for a lessons learned session • We'll be analyzing gaps, discussing improvements, and celebrating our successes • Plans are underway to increase our participant capacity (100+), as we sold out this year! • Expand our collaboration with other security enthusiasts and organisation based in Dresden+ We're also brainstorming exciting new ways to involve the security research community and elevate the event to new heights. ✨ Thank you, BSides Dresden, for this incredible opportunity! ✨ Being part of such a well-organized and inspiring event was truly amazing. Here are some highlights and photos that capture what made this experience so special: 📅 Friday, December 6th: The event began with a warm welcome from the organizing team at the SAP headquarters. Later, we visited the Christmas market, setting the stage for a memorable weekend. 📅 Saturday, December 7th: The main event kicked off early at 8:30 AM with registration and the distribution of BSides Dresden shirts. I felt honored to wear the blue shirt for speakers - it symbolized a milestone for me, as this was my first time taking the stage as a speaker! After the opening by Norman Nürnberger and Evgeni Sabev, PhD, Jonas Schneidewind and I delivered our keynote on the power of communities in cybersecurity. At 12:30 PM, we presented our session, "Building Effective Custom Detection Rules: Lessons from the Field," where we shared insights on how the team at water IT Security & Defense develops tailored detection rules to strengthen security operations. The day offered a variety of inspiring presentations that provided opportunities for learning and meaningful conversations. After the final session, we enjoyed some Glühwein, deepening our discussions. The evening wrapped up with a chance to experience Dresden’s vibrant nightlife! 📅 Sunday, December 8th: The event concluded with a guided city tour through Dresden, offering a glimpse into its rich history and culture. We finished the day at a cozy restaurant, reflecting on the event and cherishing the final moments of connection before heading home. 💡 What stood out the most: The emphasis on networking and creating meaningful connections. Engaging with so many passionate and knowledgeable individuals from the cybersecurity community was truly inspiring.
