❓ What key topics should take center stage at #BETD25? ❓ 🌍 Since the global commitment at COP28 to triple renewable energy, double energy efficiency, and shift away from fossil fuels, we've made notable strides. Sustainable energy is on course to surpass coal as the largest source of electricity by 2025. However, research indicates that the pace of change still isn’t fast enough to avoid critical climate tipping points. ✉️ We want to hear from you! Comment below and let us know which topics you believe should be featured at BETD25. Researchers have built the world’s first bifacial PV window, designed to generate electricity while providing overheating protection for better indoor thermal and visual comfort. It consists of an insulating glazing unit with bifacial crystalline silicon solar cells strips and embedded venetian blinds that act as reflectors for the rear side of the cells. #GlobalTransition #betd25 via pv magazine Global https://lnkd.in/d2gX2QbR

🌍🌿 Key Outcomes of COP29 for Renewable Energy Transition COP29 delivered progress in the global energy transition with three pivotal pledges: 1️⃣ Global Energy Storage and Grids Pledge - this pledge sets ambitious targets, including adding 1,500 GW of energy storage capacity by 2030 and refurbishing/building 25 million kilometers of transmission grids. These steps are critical for integrating renewables and addressing energy variability. 2️⃣ Green Energy Zones and Corridors Pledge - countries committed to creating green energy zones and corridors, connecting renewable energy production with consumption centers. This initiative aims to enhance the secure and cost-effective transmission of renewables across long distances. 3️⃣ Hydrogen Declaration - endorsers committed to scale up renewable and low-carbon hydrogen production while phasing out fossil-based hydrogen. This move supports clean hydrogen technologies as a cornerstone of global decarbonization. These milestones represent a collective step forward in scaling clean energy solutions, strengthening global grids, and advancing the hydrogen economy. 🌐💡 Let’s build on this momentum to ensure a sustainable future! #betd25 #COP29 #EnergyTransition #Renewables #energystorage #Hydrogen #ClimateAction

#COP29 in Baku came to an end, and we are sharing some insights from the European Renewable Energy perspective. Thanks, Rainer Hinrichs-Rahlwes! #betd25 #jointhedialogue #teamerneuerbare #3xrenewables
Vice-President: European Renewable Energies Federation (EREF), Brussels --- Board Member & Commissioner for European Affairs: German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE), Berlin
#COP29 in Baku is dragging on into extra time (like many COPs before). Now that I am back home after interesting and inspiring days in Baku with lots of events, planned and spontaneous meetings as well as catching up with old friends I'd like to share my expectations. This COP had to deliver on strengthening the #COP28 consensus to #3xRenewables and #PhaseOurFossil and and furthering developing it by agreeing on ambitious frameworks and meaningful pledges from industrialised and richer countries for climate finance for supporting the #energytransformation and #adaption for the poorest and most impacted countries. Additional agreements supporting these objectives - such as global targets for #energystorage capacities and #gridextension and #gridenhancement - were suggested by the COP-Presidency and endorsed by a wide range of stakeholders. A perceived strong support for these improvements and also for pointing out the need to strengthen the National Determined Contributions #NDCs to be submitted by mid-2025, preferably by means of accelerating #renewableenergy and #access4all to keep the 1.5°C limit in reach. But as could have been expected, oil and gas producing countries and their global lobby were advocating around the clock to delay or prevent the needed agreements - or trying to mute or weaken or reverse the #3xRenewables and #PhaseOutFossil consensus by openly rejecting it or by pushing for CCS and nuclear as alleged solutions. Whilst I am convinced that #renewables will continue to grow even faster, because they are the cheapest energy sources in an increasing number of markets, even where fossil fuel and nuclear subsidies prevent a #levelplayingfield. But at the same time it is obvious that much faster #decarbonisation is necessary to keep the #ParisAgreement alive. This requires rapid growth of #renewables and increase of #energyefficiency everywhere, and this again requires fair and equitable access to finance for to make this happen. And there is a special responsibility for the old industrialised countries and other richer and highly emitting countries to support those who are suffering the most from the climate crisis. For #COP29 to be a success a meaningful agreement on these issues must be found. Building on this #COP30 next year could become the next stepping stone for #climateneutrality well before 2050. The endeavour will be significantly easier - and faster and cheaper - by striving for 100% Renewables #go100re - as was highlighted and discussed (not only) in a panel organised by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)'s Coalition for Action. With this in mind I do hope that the #COP29 will eventually agree on meaningful steps in the right direction. The technologies are there, they are mature, and the will be embraced in a rapidly growing number of communities, cities, countries and regions. But there is no time to wait! What is needed not is unambiguous, clear and strong political will to make this happen.
