🚀 This week’s Global Digi-Health Monitor Highlight: 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝗸-𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝘂𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 https://lnkd.in/emKW_zCn The researchers identified a task-grouping strategy as a key approach for using large language models (LLMs) in health systems, which allows hospitals to optimize workflows and maintain performance while significantly reducing costs. By grouping up to 50 clinical tasks together, such as patient matching for clinical trials and data extraction for epidemiological studies, hospitals could potentially save up to 17-fold on application programming interface (API) costs, translating to millions of dollars in savings annually for larger health systems. An unexpected finding was that even advanced models like GPT-4 exhibited performance drops when pushed to their cognitive limits, indicating that these models can struggle under heavy workloads, which underscores the importance of recognizing their operational thresholds to ensure reliability in critical healthcare settings. 🚀 This week’s Global Digi-Health Monitor Highlight: 𝗦𝗘𝗤𝗨𝗢𝗜𝗔 𝗔𝗜: 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗧𝘂𝗺𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 https://lnkd.in/emKW_zCn The main advantage of the SEQUOIA AI program over traditional genomic sequencing methods is its ability to predict gene activity from standard microscopy images of tumor biopsies, significantly reducing the time and cost associated with genomic sequencing, which can take weeks and cost thousands of dollars. The researchers validated SEQUOIA's accuracy in predicting gene expression related to breast cancer by comparing its predictions with established commercial genomic tests, such as the FDA-approved MammaPrint test, which analyzes the expression of 70 breast-cancer-related genes. The results indicated that SEQUOIA could provide similar genomic risk scores, demonstrating a strong correlation with patient outcomes, as patients identified as high risk by SEQUOIA exhibited worse outcomes, including higher rates of cancer recurrence. The potential implications of SEQUOIA for the future of cancer treatment include the ability to streamline clinical decision-making, reduce reliance on expensive gene expression tests, and enhance the understanding of gene signatures across various cancer types, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

🚀 This week’s Global Digi-Health Monitor Highlight: 𝗔 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝗼𝗻: 𝗔𝗜 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁: https://lnkd.in/emKW_zCn The study found that large language models (LLMs) outperformed physicians in diagnostic accuracy when used independently, but did not enhance the diagnostic reasoning of physicians when they utilized LLMs compared to conventional resources. To assess diagnostic reasoning abilities, the researchers employed a randomized, single-blind design where physicians worked on six moderately complex clinical cases, with one group using LLM tools like ChatGPT Plus and GPT-4, while the control group relied on traditional resources. The implications of these findings suggest that while LLMs show potential for improving diagnostic reasoning, their integration into clinical practice should focus on complementing rather than replacing physician expertise, emphasizing the need for effective training and structured prompt strategies to optimize the collaboration between physicians and LLMs..
