🌟 As You know in most large companies, no matter what position You would like to get, You need to pass a coding interview. 🌳 For example, in Belarus, in the best companies for the position of MLE (Machine Learning Engineer) You need to pass 3 stages to get job offer: code section, math section and ML section. 🎉 That's why I switched my activity from Kaggle to LeetCode and today I solved my 100th of 3173 LeetCode's problems!

Hello! I'm now in my seventh week of actively seeking a new role, and I'd like to share some observations from my journey in the IT job market: Market Dynamics: Contrary to common beliefs, the IT market isn't as bleak as some suggest, nor as idyllic as it once was. The bubble has indeed burst, leading to a more refined market. Options may be fewer, but demand for highly skilled professionals remains strong. I find it particularly engaging when asked about my achievements in previous projects during interviews—it’s both challenging and exciting. Salary Transparency: Salaries are competitive and often transparent. Most job openings now provide a clear salary range, reflecting a maturation in the job market compared to years past. Recruiter Efficiency: The jokes about recruiters couldn’t be further from the truth! Most recruiters are knowledgeable and precise, with only rare technical misunderstandings—perfectly understandable. Technical Interviews: While they can be intense, they are not the nightmares they’re made out to be. Most interviewers are friendly and trusting, focusing on your actual skills and knowledge, though make no mistake - you will be tested and tried. Feedback Culture: More than half of my job applications receive a personalized response—excluding autoresponders. The further I get in the application process, the more detailed the feedback becomes. I am quite pleased with the level of detail provided as I progress deeper into the process. For those also navigating the IT job market, here are two tips: Diversify Your Search: Explore various job boards. I've found LinkedIn, Just Join IT, and No Fluff Jobs to be particularly helpful. I tried a few other boards but with little results. Smart CV Building: Focus not just on aesthetics but on substance. Clearly articulate what you truly excel at; your resume should serve as a blueprint of your expertise, setting the stage for your interviews. As we have a lot of new internships to offer in Vention, I decided to ask Anton Niakrasau, our Department Manager who is looking for Python, .NET, Ruby, and Azure DevOps interns, what is the most important skill trainee should have. 👉 Look at his answer: “In my opinion, the core skill that trainees should have is motivation. We don't expect a lot of knowledge, but we need them to learn a lot in a short period. They need that internal drive to push themselves to work hard. This motivation will help them move forward in the future, and it is something we cannot instill in them directly – it is what we expect them to have. The next essential skill is discipline because they need the internal power to work consistently. There are times when we have to develop something not very interesting and inspiring. Even if you start your startup, sooner or later, you will have to fix bugs and write internationalization code. Another important skill we expect is proficiency in English. When people have good English skills, we can avoid the initial headache of helping them prepare for their first interview with a client😊. Speaking of hard skills, I believe they will be able to gain them while learning. However, some prior knowledge can indicate a person's diligence and hard work because it shows they did something before joining us. We have a good example that demonstrates this approach works. In 2022, we decided to help a group of people find new jobs and organized a laboratory. We did not interview any of them. As a result, we had a team where most were completely inexperienced. But by the end, they all knew how to develop applications, and eight out of ten found jobs. Their motivation and diligence, not their hard skills, helped them, and they continued working in different companies.” This couldn’t be more inspiring! It is hard being Georgian and living in The Netherlands nowadays. In our company, good communication skills are a must because we often have interviews with clients. I am Georgian and 20% of my country is occupied by Russia - this is how we start usually an introduction of ourselves. In fact it is a sentence which we continue saying to remember it. To remember what Russia did to our country.    Now it is getting even worse. The ruling party is adopting a law, which is almost the copy of russian foreign agency law, by which Putin is silencing not comfortable people for him. These people either fled the country or they are in jail. Same will happen to Georgia in addition to all other consecutive results that will occur after adopting the law. This reminds me The Beatles song Back to USSR   Georgians including me, we think that Georgian ruling party will not stop until they experience consequences themselves personally. Therefore, we started a petition and we need your help by signing the petition which is addressed to Council of Europe, to keep visa free travel for Georgians and to sanction Ivanishvili and those members of parliament who voted for the passing of "Foreign Agent Law" aka "russian law". 🔍 Recently, I was searching for a new job and was attending numerous interviews for Senior Front-End Engineer positions. This had been my first time exploring job opportunities worldwide; previously, my experience had been limited to the Ukrainian market. 📊 For beginning a little bit of statistics: 📉 Conversion from application to HR call: 5-10% — Many of my applications were ignored or received an auto-response. ⏳ Duration of the hiring pipeline: from 2 weeks up to 5 months — a surprisingly lengthy process! 🤯 Number of interviews: between 3 and 7 — typically starting with an initial HR call, followed by an online or offline test assignment, several technical interviews, and one with a manager. 🥶 Worst time for candidates: winter is particularly challenging. 🛠️ Common Steps in the Hiring Process: 📞 Initial HR call. This usually involves a basic introduction to your background, technologies, and the products you've worked on. The HR checks your communication skills, values, and motivation. 🖥️ Technical screening. This might be conducted via an online platform like HackerRank or a short call with an outsourced interviewer. You typically face 1-3 tasks or verbal questions to evaluate your knowledge of JavaScript fundamentals, framework-specific tasks, or algorithms. 💻 Technical Interviews. This stage includes up to three sessions. Interviews are more challenging and dive deeper into your expertise. Usually cover JavaScript core concepts (arrays, objects, promises, DOM), framework-specific challenges (like building applications or components), and algorithms (arrays, stacks, queues, linked lists, graphs). Sometimes, you encounter tricky data transformation or iteration problems. 🙋‍♂️ Behavioral Interview. In this final stage, a manager or HR talks about your experience, strengths and weaknesses, conflict resolution, achievements, and the most challenging projects you’ve handled. 📩 After this extensive process, you receive either an offer or feedback via email or a personal call from HR. If you receive a rejection, ask when you can reapply. I think it’s time to reveal the projects I’ve been working on for almost a year. I rejoined Yandex about a year and a half ago, and it was my first time working in the HR department. Although I joined the team as a content marketer, I also started working on vacancies. Our central assumption was that by altering the approach to job descriptions, we’d be able to increase not just the number of applications but the number of relevant applications. And we’ll kill two birds with one stone — we will be able to hire more and of better quality and reduce the burden on recruiters, who are usually buried under tons of CVs. After extensive research, in-depth interviews, and MVP testing, we finally achieved it. We released a brand-new approach to vacancy compilation, which works better. I can't disclose exact details, but we boosted all the metrics we wanted to increase. So what have we changed? Firstly, we focused on the task descriptions. Before, there were tens of bullets with short names of tasks without any details. Imagine how confusing the “we are looking for analytics to analyze the data” description must be. Now recruiters and hiring managers should mention up to three of the most important functions with detailed explanations. It helps candidates understand the requirements better and provide a more informed response. Additionally, we added an entirely new field named “About the team,” where the hiring managers can tell all the additional information about their product, team, or position they are trying to fill. It also helps candidates make a conscious choice and reduces the number of irrelevant responses. We also automated the benefits block. Yandex has many benefits, and it is impossible to mention all of them in the vacancy. So before, recruiters and hiring managers used to choose the most interesting one, in their opinion, and it confused candidates because it seemed that different Yandex departments had other benefits, but it was not. So we’ve reviewed all the benefits and chosen the main ones according to candidates' surveys, and now this block automatically adds to all new vacancies. We also added the optional block named “Greetings from the hiring manager.” This name speaks for itself, so I say it helps add a face to the vacancy, makes it more friendly, and lets a candidate meet their potential boss before responding. Of course, we've made other minor improvements and changes, but that's a topic for another time. Now, I'm just proud of myself, the team, and all the jobs we have done.
