💰 How to negotiate a better job offer? According to yesterday's poll, only 25% of you have a habit of always negotiating your job offer. Andrei Mikitiuk and I had a live stream where we discussed counter-offers, fear of rejection, worries about appearing greedy, and other daunting aspects of negotiating for a better salary and benefits. Here's a brief summary of the main points and tips: 🟡 In American companies, negotiation is expected, and recruiters anticipate it. If you don't negotiate, recruiters may question your confidence and value as a candidate. 🟡 You can negotiate not only your salary but also other aspects such as sign-on bonus, equity, number of vacation days, remote work arrangements, education reimbursement, enhanced benefits package, and even job title. Securing a higher job title is particularly valuable as it influences how future employers perceive you. 🟡 Never respond to an offer immediately; always take a 2-3 day pause. During this time, research market salaries, consider, and prepare your counter-offer. Responding to an offer right away portrays you as a desperate candidate who jumps at the first opportunity. 🟡 In your counter-offer, be sure to express gratitude for the offer and convey genuine enthusiasm and desire to work for the company. Justify your request for a higher salary with specific figures from your market research and emphasize your skills that will help meet the company's needs. 🟡 If asked about your salary expectations before an offer is made, you can either state your expectations if you don't want to waste time on the process in case of a mismatch, or tactfully dodge the question by saying that money isn't your primary concern and inquire about the company's salary range for the position. The traditional recruitment process in IT often results in hiring individuals who struggle to handle #real challenges. Every day, we receive numerous applications from developers who have only worked in a #coronavirus bubble. While it's not impossible for someone to progress from an intern to a senior developer within a year or so, the reality is that a developer needs to have a much broader way of thinking than just the ability to answer technical questions. So, we implemented the System Design Challenge as a part of our recruitment of mid-level and #senior developers. 15 scenarios simulating actual client engagements. In a 2-hour session, candidates are assessed on the ability to: - Engage in technical client #communication. - Show an understanding of a #design-first approach - Analyze system requirements and apply system design #principles - Discover and address #functional and non-functional #requirements - Present well-reasoned #solutions Our goal is to catch the way the candidate thinks, acts, and communicates the work.  Only real cases, real challenges, and real work should be done to verify if the candidate matches our high-level expectations. What did we get? - 80% of candidates who passed the technical interview failed after this stage! But, we transformed the #quality of the engineers we're bringing on board and now find perfect fits, able to tackle complex challenges and collaborate with clients. What do you think? The number of job postings on Djinni has stayed the same over the last year, with around 10,000 jobs posted every month. But the types of jobs have changed. Non-technical jobs are becoming more common: a year ago, 33% of the jobs were for developers, and 36% were non-technical. Now, only 30% are for developers, while 37% are non-technical. Back in August 2022, when there were almost twice as many jobs, 46% were for developers and only 20% were non-technical. There are also more developer jobs with no experience required: over 4% now, compared to 3% last year and 2% two years ago. On the other hand, senior developer roles are decreasing. A year ago, 43% of developer jobs were for seniors; now it’s 34%. Two years ago, most roles were for mid-level developers, and less than 30% were for seniors.
