⏰ EU Travel Rule compliance deadline approaching On December 30, 2024, the EU’s Regulation 2023/1113 (TFR) will apply, requiring CASPs and ICASPs to comply with the Travel Rule. What should we pay attention to? 1️⃣ EBA transition period is not an excuse for delay The EBA has introduced a transition period until July 31, 2025, but it’s critical to understand that this doesn't postpone the compliance deadline. During this period, CASPs and ICASPs may exceptionally leverage infrastructures or services with technical limitations, but mitigating measures must be in place, including alternative mechanisms to collect, store, and make required information available to the receiving CASP or ICASP. 2️⃣ MiCA grandfathering period is not a loophole for Travel Rule compliance While MiCA offers a grandfathering period for authorization purposes, this doesn't delay Travel Rule obligations. The EBA’s "Preventing Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing in the EU’s Crypto-Assets Sector" document states that Regulation (EU) 2023/1113 applies to grandfathered CASPs just as it does to other credit and financial institutions. ❗ CASPs and ICASPs should ensure their systems, processes, and procedures are ready to meet the obligations of Regulation (EU) 2023/1113 by December 30, 2024. #EU #TravelRule #CASP
