gov Deputy Chief Legal Counsel (240003PU) Job Duties The Supreme Court of Ohio is seeking to fill the position of Deputy Chief Legal Counsel in the Office of Chief Legal Counsel.
The Deputy Chief Legal Counsel serves as counsel on policy and legal issues affecting the Supreme Court and the Ohio judicial system, and on rules promulgated by the Supreme Court.
What You'll Do: Provide day-to-day legal counsel on matters regarding human resources law, public records law, and law related to judicial administration.
Serve as back-up to the Chief Legal Counsel in his or her absence.
Serve as counsel and the lead staff liaison to the Commission on the Rules of Superintendence for Ohio Courts, including providing legal research and rule drafting expertise to the work of the commission and its committees regarding the Rules of Superintendence for the Courts of Ohio.
Serve as back-up counsel and staff liaison to the Commission on the Rules of Practice and Procedure by providing legal research and rule drafting expertise to the work of the commission and its committees regarding the Ohio Rules of Civil Procedure, Ohio Rules of Criminal Procedure, Ohio Rules of Appellate Procedure, Ohio Rules of Juvenile Procedure, Ohio Rules of Evidence and the Ohio Traffic Rules.
Provide legal counsel and rule drafting services to the various commissions and advisory committees of the Supreme Court, including the Advisory Committees on Court Security; Children and Families; Domestic Violence and Language Services, and to the Commissions on Dispute Resolution; Specialized Dockets and Technology and the Courts.
Provide management of projects as assigned by the Chief Justice and Administrative Director.
Complete special assignments as determined by the Chief Justice and Administrative Director.

Qualifications What we’re looking for: Requires a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and an active Ohio law license in good standing.

Outstanding written communication skills, proven ability to write in a legislative style for the preparation of rules and policies, dependable research skills, excellent organization skills with attention to detail, ability to work on multiple tasks independently with minimal supervision under time sensitive deadlines, ability to prioritize and work under pressure, and handle routine matters in a timely manner.
Strong working knowledge of the structure and operation of Ohio state government and court systems.
Experience in legislative relations is considered a plus.
Requires advanced knowledge and experience in the Microsoft Windows environment and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, Internet Explorer, and Excel, and solid knowledge of Westlaw or LEXIS/NEXIS.
