Overview:
Oversees the legal aspects of our business, safeguards our reputation by guaranteeing that the company strictly complies with legal guidelines and gives legal advice to management about all relevant issues for the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks (“CZFP”).
Responsibilities:
Give accurate and timely counsel to executives in a variety of legal topics (labor law, partnerships, international ventures, corporate finance etc.
).
Collaborate with management to devise efficient defense strategies.
Specify internal governance policies and regularly monitor compliance.
Research and evaluate different risk factors regarding contracts, business decisions and operations.
Leads levy committee administrative strategies to include responsibility and review of all legal documents related to the levy campaign.
Apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues.
Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel, public authority etc.
), creating relations of trust.
Draft and solidify agreements, contracts, and other legal documents to ensure the company’s full legal rights.
Deal with complex matters with multiple stakeholders and forces.
Provide clarification on legal language or specifications to everyone in the organization.
Conduct all work with integrity and responsibility.
Maintain current knowledge of alterations in legislation.
May assume the role of CZFP spokesperson before the media and within the community to gain public understanding and acceptance of the Columbus Zoological Park Association as needed.
Acts as Director on Duty as assigned.
Constantly strives to further the mission of the organization and avidly supports the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in law or Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
Active license to practice law and/or membership in the Ohio State Bar.
5 years proven experience as Legal Counsel in a business environment.
Experience with collective bargaining a plus.
Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate law and procedures.
Full comprehension of the influences of the external environment of a corporation.
Demonstrated ability to create legal defensive and proactive strategies.

Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with all CZFP team members and contacts regarding company business required.
Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including but not limited to safety protocols required.
Possession of a valid state issued motor vehicle operator’s license and a good driving record required.
Proof of negative TB screening prior to placement and annually thereafter required.
Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background and credit check required.
