*PURPOSE OF POSITION*
Deputy Clerk/Bailiff will provide administrative and clerical support to the Court, oversee the courtroom, and process caseflow.
This is an unclassified position.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
The following duties are normal for this position.
These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.
Other duties may be required and assigned.
· Assist the public in a respectful, informative way without providing legal advice by answering questions regarding their cases via telephone/in person, or refer the public to the law library for legal representation information
· Receive, docket, file, and process pleadings in all case file types including, but not limited to juvenile delinquency/unruly, dependency, traffic, adult custody/visitation, and adult contributing
· Make copies, certify documents and administer oath for pro se filings
· Appoint public defenders and prepare copies of files
· Schedule hearings, send summons and/or notice of hearings
· Prepare journal entries
· Accept payments, maintain cost screens, and monitor payment of Court costs
· Issue capiases, warrants to convey, bench warrants, and recognizance bonds
· Receive, open, and process mail on a daily basis
· Manage, maintain, prepare, copy, and distribute Court calendars
· Pull weekly files for Judge and/or Magistrate
· Prepare files for appeal
· Utilize excel documents for internal tracking of necessary information
· Bailiff hearings, prepare courtroom, monitor and set up recording program
· Perform other essential duties as required and/or instructed
*MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
· Balance and maintain state reporting figures to the Ohio Supreme Court and/or the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles
· Make arrangements with the county jail for transport of adults and juveniles to Court
*MINIMAL TRAINING & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES*
High school graduate with one to two years of experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides equivalent skills, knowledge, and abilities.
*CRITICAL SKILLS*
· Knowledge of the rules of grammar, punctuation, diction, and style
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office
· Knowledge of how to operate a personal computer
· Knowledge of legal terminology
· Knowledge of the Juvenile Justice System and the Ohio Revised Code
· Ability to comprehend and recall a variety of informational documents, financial reports, court orders, records, etc…
· Ability to record and deliver information accurately, explain procedures and follow both written and oral instructions
· Ability to handle stressful situations in a fast-paced environment by analyzing and problem solving
· Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize work
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor
· Ability to adapt to changes in procedure, new tasks, and new responsibilities
· Ability to type at least 30 words per minute
*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*
· Requires the physical ability to operate a variety of office machines which include, but are not limited to personal computers and related software, telephone (both landline and cell phone), projector, time stamp, audio recorder system, photocopier/facsimile, typewriters, shredder, and printer
· Work involves walking, standing, lifting, and carrying a minimum of 20 lbs
· Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide
· Requires the ability to perform in an office environment
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $38,283.
24 - $46,104.
