📃Scientific paper: Separation capacity of linear reservoirs with random connectivity matrix Abstract: We argue that the success of reservoir computing lies within the separation capacity of the reservoirs and show that the expected separation capacity of random linear reservoirs is fully characterised by the spectral decomposition of an associated generalised matrix of moments. Of particular interest are reservoirs with Gaussian matrices that are either symmetric or whose entries are all independent. In the symmetric case, we prove that the separation capacity always deteriorates with time; while for short inputs, separation with large reservoirs is best achieved when the entries of the matrix are scaled with a factor $\rho\_T/\sqrt\{N\}$, where $N$ is the dimension of the reservoir and $\rho\_T$ depends on the maximum length of the input time series. In the i.i.d. case, we establish that optimal separation with large reservoirs is consistently achieved when the entries of the reservoir matrix are scaled with the exact factor $1/\sqrt\{N\}$. We further give upper bounds on the quality of separation in function of the length of the time series. We complement this analysis with an investigation of the likelihood of this separation and the impact of the chosen architecture on separation consistency. In our latest research published in the International Journal of Exact Sciences, we explored the effectiveness of three advanced fingerprinting techniques—biomarkers, diamondoids, and multi-elemental analysis—to correlate oil seeps. These are the takeaways and findings of our study: 1. Challenges with Light Hydrocarbons: While biomarker analysis provides initial insights, it is less effective for lighter hydrocarbon compounds. The study advocates for including diamondoids and multi-elemental analysis to address these limitations and improve the correlation of oil seep sources. 2. Diamondoids as Indicators: Our findings suggest that diamondoid analysis is a superior indicator of hydrocarbon maturity compared to traditional biomarkers, especially for light condensed oils. 3. Trace Element Insights: Analyzing trace elements provides valuable information on the genetic correlation among seeped hydrocarbons, revealing their origins and alterations. Future studies should focus on establishing consistent ratios as proxies for sourcing and maturity parameters, which could further refine the understanding of oil seep characteristics and their origins. 4. Integrated Approach: Combining biomarker, diamondoid, and multi-element analyses enhances the understanding of oil seep composition and origin, particularly in biodegraded samples. 5. Addressing Challenges: We identified the interference of recent organic matter in biomarker analysis, highlighting the need for complementary techniques to improve reliability. Our study emphasizes the importance of a refined analytical workflow for evaluating oil seep samples, paving the way for more effective hydrocarbon exploration strategies. I am pleased to share with you our latest publication, which focuses on improving #production #rates in #block #cave mining by understanding the role of in-situ #rock #mass #characterization, #insitu #stress and the impact of #induced #hydraulic #fracturing on production performance. In this work, we applied #Discrete #Fracture #Network (DFN) techniques, #geostatistical #simulation, and #geomechanical concepts to address the complexities of this problem. The #uncertainty analysis results are based on #12000 DFN models and #rock #block #geometry analysis at a #realscale #cave mine, with #several #milliones fractures conducted in #real time. This approach ensures the reliability and robustness of the study’s findings. We employed #advanced #computational #techniques implemented into #R-#Dis-#Frag computer pacake (Hekmatnejad and Crespin, 2022) to address this highly demanding problem. We are #now #working to understand the role of in-situ rock mass characteristics and hydraulic fracturing by using #numerical #modeling of the #caving #process within a #fractured rock mass. Key Details: Well: Chontaduro-1 Location: VIM-21 Block, Lower Magdalena Valley Basin, onshore Colombia (50 km from main export pipeline). Discovery: 123 feet (true vertical depth) of net gas pay within the primary Cienaga de Oro (CDO) sandstone reservoir. Reservoir Properties: Average porosity of 21%. Production Testing: Initial flow rate of 12 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) achieved Project Scope: Appraisal drilling with the Chontaduro-2 well targeting the southern extension of the CDO reservoir .. Development planning for potential commercial production. Potential for further exploration in the VIM-21 block. Two weeks ago I had the chance to present our work titled "Modeling of Proppant Flowback to Quantify and Predict its Impact on Shale Gas Production Under Different Drawdown Strategies - A Vaca Muerta Case Study" at Unconventional Resources Technology Conference (URTeC) and at the Annual ResFrac Symposium. During this work we analyzed the impact of proppant return on gas production by running a series of sensitivities to drawdown management after history-matching water, gas and proppant mass production for the first time ever with a numerical model of an unconventional well using ResFrac, which is a fully coupled reservoir, geomechanics and hydraulic fracturing simulator. This paper was the main focus of my thesis during my Master of Science at The University of Texas at Austin, and it involved the collaboration with ResFrac Corporation, Tecpetrol and Pan American Energy. #Waterflooding #Colombia #Status Waterflooding projects to increase the oil recovery factor began in Colombia in 1957 (La Cira field) and have been applied in 54 oil fields. With JORGE PESCADOR, we will share some statistics on the Waterflooding application reported in the literature as part of his master's degree thesis (of which I was Advisor) at Universidad de América. The potential for secondary recovery and EOR process implementations in the country is very high.
