The latest version of Node is now available. Node.js 22 Some of the newest updates include: - V8 JavaScript engine updated to 12.4 - Support for require()ing ESM graphs is now exposed by default - Package authors can now easily allow both CJS and ESM users to consume their package - Added WebSocket client  - node --watch now stable - (A mode in which you can run your node server and it will reload when a change happens to the specified file or path. - Increased the default highWaterMark for streams, providing a performance boost across the board at the cost of slightly higher memory usage. We almost didn’t do it... 😶 Submitting AgenticJS for the Gemini API Developer Competition was a decision that kept us up at night. With $1 million in prizes on the line, and a custom electric 1981 DeLorean up for grabs, we were tempted to play it safe, to go with something that fit the mold. But then, we asked ourselves, Is that really who we are? We're not the type to shy away from a challenge, and we definitely aren't afraid to push boundaries. AgenticJS was born out of a desire to make AI accessible to the 20 million JavaScript developers who deserve powerful tools just as much as anyone else. So why not showcase that? Why not take the risk? It wasn’t about winning or losing. to add to this, I like how composable Module Federation feels while not restricting and coupling your architecture too much. Compared to web components this can feel more native for React developers. I am comparing those two since they seem to be very different ways of composing a microfrontends architecture and seem to be the most prominent styles. Correct me if you feel there is an even better way I am missing. Module Federation 2.0 vs Web Components: A Quick Comparison • Module Federation 2.0 Pros: Dynamic module sharing, team independence, scalability, lazy loading. Cons: Adds complexity, potential dependency conflicts, and performance overhead. • Web Components Pros: Framework-agnostic, encapsulated, reusable, standardized. Cons: Verbose syntax, limited advanced features, and testing challenges. Choose MF 2.0 for dynamic micro-frontends. Choose Web Components for framework-agnostic, reusable UI. Quick heads up for anyone implementing module federation with microfrontends just for funsies 😅 I just spent hours wrestling with Create React App configurations (don't ask me why I know CRA is dead 💀) - multiple webpack configs, plugin tweaks, and dependency resolution issues. It eventually worked but ugh I wasted so much time. Switched the container app to Vite because my app uses Vite and I just wasn't willing to change it. The difference was dramatic! Module federation setup was straightforward, build times dropped significantly, and the dev experience was actually enjoyable. Vite's native ESM support and optimized dev server made the federation setup way more intuitive because I didn't have to fight with webpack's federation plugin configuration or deal with CRA's optimization layers. Looking into it though, I see webpack 5 is actually the gold standard so I can't wait to see if that's easier to handle. #webdevelopment #microfrontends #reactjs #developermistakes #lessonlearned #vite
