Behind this project there are more than one hundred Afro and Indigenous Embera communities, who have freely decided to opt for climate financing as a driver of their local development. This decision benefits them, benefits the immense biodiversity of the Biogeographic Chocó and benefits the entire planet. All of them and ACT AMERICA CARBON TRADING thank Nature-Based Solutions platform for its review and recognition in this publication that makes visible a solution to a global problem; we also want to build a global solution in the implementation. If you want to know in detail the 86 main actions and you think you can help as an expert in specific areas, partner, ally, financier and observer, you are welcome. 🚧🏆 The Baudó river in Colombia is born in one of the most biodiverse areas on the planet. It has been developed in a territory with a lot of pressure from gold mining. Less than 50 kilometers from the project area, The Quito and Atrato rivers are destroyed by the pressure exerted by gold miners. 💡🌿 The local communities reject gold mining and have adopted the path of climate financing for their sustainability and the preservation of their territory in terms of biodiversity and culture. The REDD+ CUENCA ALTO BAUDÓ project aims to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in the area of approximately 190.000 hectares. It includes three Afro Colombian community councils and five indigenous reservations. The project has nine lines of investment that aim to: 🌳 Promote sustainable forest management 🤝 Strengthen governance and capacity building of the communities involved 📃 Apply socio-environmental safeguards and the regulatory framework. REDD+ is primarily concerned with trees but in this project, it comes with a larger objective: to recover and protect the Upper Basin of the Baudó River.
